LIVING THE THRIVING LIFE: AN INTRODUCTION
THE TREE METAPHOR
We designed this course to teach a new path to life balance. The term “life balance” may be
thrown around a lot, but honestly, balance isn’t an accurate description of what we are looking for.
Balance, in a literal sense, requires equal distribution. But life simply isn’t like that. The many
parts of our life are not equal in importance. It’s no wonder we often feel we’re chasing the
impossible.
But let us tell you what is possible. It is possible to live an abundant life that is fulfilling and
thriving in all areas. We just need a new paradigm to work within.
Learning how to thrive is a lesson that has been taught by nature since the beginning of time.
Imagine you are a majestic beautiful tree.
You have numerous branches. Some are big. Some are small. But all have a place and help add
shape and beauty to your life. Each branch represents a part of your life. Your individual branches
make up your many roles, relationships, gifts and talents, and many more attributes that combine
to create the unique and beautiful combination of who you are.
What we all want is to have a thriving tree. We want every branch to be fruitful and healthy. The
focus of this course will be to explore the four principles of thriving that are self-evident when we
look at how nature is designed to work.

Pruning: Clearing out the dead and weak parts of our lives
Nourishing: Obtaining the proper self-care so we can nourish our many branches
Defining: Defining our branches and focusing on the ones that most need our attention
Grace: We were never meant to do this alone. We can prune and nourish, but ultimately we
have no control over the storms, the rain, and the sunshine. We must learn to recognize our
own limitations and trust in Grace.
LIVING A THRIVING LIFE: AN INTRODUCTION
We know these principles are true! They work. They provide a template we can revisit again and
again as we grow through the many seasons of our lives. We have seen the fruit in our own lives
and are eager to see the same for you.
Let’s grow together,
