From September 24th through the 27th you will find the 11th Annual Celtic Music
Festival and Retreats!
Everything Celtic in Spanish Peaks Country
World renowned Celtic artists and scholars are guaranteed to keep you singing,
dancing and enjoying music, day and night, for four days straight, in various
locations throughout Spanish Peaks Country!
In conjunction with the festival there are two Retreats … one for Harps and one
for Pipes!
Something for Everyone - Music, Singing, Dancing, and Education! Don’t Miss It!
Headlining this year is Carlos Núnez & Band. Carlos is the world’s most famous
player of the gaita, the bagpipes of Galicia that date back to the 11th century. A
musician whose range extends far beyond the gaita, he is recognized as a
phenomenal and innovative piper and wind instrument star.
More recently, Carlos himself has been twice nominated for a Latin Grammy and
has racked up several of his own Platinum and Gold albums and DVDs.
Charismatic on and off stage, Carlos plays Celtic music with dazzling Latin
passion. Whether on his gaita; the Irish, Scottish or Breton pipes; or the recorder
or flute, he is nothing short of amazing – truly in a category by himself.
Also joining the festival this year is the group Dàimh. Taking their name from the
Gaelic word for kinship, “The Gaelic Super Group” Dàimh (pronounced dive) is
based entirely in the West Highlands of Scotland, an area as much renowned for
its scenic beauty as for its rich musical and cultural heritage. From pyrotechnic
jigs and reels to achingly poignant ballads, Dàimh offers a fresh, up-to-date
approach to traditional music. Their mix of high energy and fast-flowing tunes fuse
together their individual styles on bagpipes, fiddle, banjo, guitar, bodhran and
mandola to create a unique and compelling sound without boundaries.
After the Celts move out, the Germans take the stage. La Veta, Colorado
celebrates its 28th annual Oktoberfest on October 3 (always the 1st Saturday of
October).
What will you find - German Bier Garden, featuring domestic and imported beer &
wine; the ninth year of the Twin Peak Rodder’s Car Show; all-day music and
dancing; Over 60 Arts, Crafts and Food vendors; Oktoberfest Royalty … and most
of all Lots of Fun!
And not to be missed - a drive along the Scenic Highway of Legends –
discovering some of the most beautiful sights in Southern Colorado all enhanced
by the Colorado Aspens. As they say in the Cucharas Valley – Come, Discover
the Magic!
