Project for a Western Australian hike4hunger, a hike of solidarity towards an end
to world hunger.
The Hunger Project (THP) is a global, non-profit, strategic organization
committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. In Africa, South Asia
and Latin America, THP seeks to end hunger and poverty by
empowering people to lead lives of self-reliance, meet their own basic
needs and build better futures for their children.
Immersed in Western Australia’s South West, which is recognized internationally
as a Biodiversity Hotspot, the Cape to Cape Track offers walkers hidden coves,
rocky outcrops, limestone cliffs, majestic karri forest, two oceans, two
lighthouses and an abundance of wildflowers! Stunning and wild coastal
landscapes, physical challenge and nourishing meals await you.
Throughout the End to End Experience, CCET guides will share their extensive
knowledge and experience interpreting the natural beauty of the Track, and The
Hunger Project team will share insights and inspiration towards building
sustainable communities and ending world hunger…. stimulate your muscles and
your mind as you hike!

The Itinerary
Friday 10th October: Pre walk set up – Walkers are able to set up their tents and
camp on this day if they would like.
Saturday 11th October: Arrival and Walk Day 1
Cape Naturaliste to Yallingup, approx. 14km
11am Meet at Cape Naturaliste to commence the End to End Experience. Drivers
can leave their vehicles here for the day, a shuttle bus will drop you back to the
carpark at the end of this walk day to drive to camp.
The first section of the Cape to Cape Track begins with a gentle down hill stroll
on the ‘access-for-all’ section of track, leading to stunning vistas of Sugar Loaf
Rock. We’ll follow the Track along an extended section of carved limestone sea
cliffs before reaching the coastal hamlet of Yallingup - ‘The Place of Love’.
Sunday 12th October: Walk Day 2
Yallingup to Moses Rock, approx. 18km
Continuing on from Yallingup, pass over the granite headland at Torpedo Rock
and on to the fabled Smiths Beach. After Smiths the topography changes quickly
as giant granite marbles dominate near Canal Rocks. Travel high over the ridge
and past Rotary Lookout, before dropping back down on to the beach at Injidup,
then through the coastal tee tree and back onto the wild south-west facing coast.
We’ll weave through stunning areas of limestone cliff and granite before coming
to Moses Rock.
Monday 13th October: Walk Day 3
Moses Rock to Gracetown, approx. 15km
Heading out from Moses Rock the Track rises high over several large limestone
headlands before flattening out on Willyabrup Beach. A wonderfully
constructed staircase then guides walkers up and onto the stunning sea cliffs
that form the famous climbing buttresses of Willyabrup Cliffs. This stretch
passes through a remote stretch of coast, broken up primarily by the powerful
surf breaks aptly named Gallows and Guillotines. Arrive at the coastal hamlet
of Gracetown, perched above Cowaramup Bay.
Tuesday 14th October: Walk Day 4
Gracetown to Prevelly, approx. 20km
Traverse the limestone coast that dominates this stretch, as we head to one of
the first European settlement sites of the region at Ellensbrook; a great place for
morning tea and to reflect on the trials and tribulations the early settlers faced.
We’ll follow the spring-fed creek to mythological Meekadarabee Falls then
meander through the dense coastal scrub that is prolific in this area. After
several kilometres, we’ll visit the isolated coves of Gnoocardup and the
torquoise bay of Kilcarnup. We’ll take time to stop and marvel at the centuries
old osprey nest in Horseshoe Bay before taking in some of the world’s finest
surfing coastline in Prevelly.
Wednesday 15th October: Walk Day 5
Prevelly to Contos, approx. 18km
Travel high over the ridge above Prevelly before descending the 300-odd stairs
into the Boodjidup Valley. After following the Boodjidup Creek, the Track
spills out onto Boodjidup Beach, a magical place for spotting wader birds and
local boardriders. The Track continues to wind its way along the coast to
historic Redgate Beach - discover tales of shipwrecks and heroism. Next is
quite possibly one of the most spectacular sections of the Cape to Cape Track
(though we are biased as CCET have adopted and maintain this leg!) with the
scenic coastal cliffs at Bob’s Hollow and Contos Cliffs – stunning views to the
north and the south, make this a magnificent high point at which to mark
United Nations World Food Day.
Thursday 16th October: Walk Day 6 - …. UN World Food Day
Contos to Hamelin Bay, approx. 22km
Spend the morning walking in the shade of the towering sentinels of the karri
forest (Eucalyptus diversicolor), the world’s third largest hardwood tree. We’ll
keep heading south and through the coastal heath onto beautiful Boranup
Beach. After seven kilometres of sand walking, find the protected Hamelin
Bay, home to some of the Capes’ friendliest stingrays and a great place for a
refreshing swim.
Friday 17th October: Walk Day 7
Hamelin Bay to Cape Leeuwin 27km
Numerous islands and headlands are dotted along this stretch of coast. Cosy
Corner, a sheltered spot from the winter’s notorious northwest wind, has great
big blue pools that are a diver and swimmer’s dream! The Track then weaves
over a low limestone shelf, full of solution pipes and blowholes, which fire up
spouts of salt water during big and heavy swells! From here the walk enters the
deserted expanse of Deepdene Beach, a 5km mix of sand and broken rock. A
series of low limestone cliffs make this day an interesting and slightly hairy
experience. Walk along the cliffs to the lookout at Skippy Rock and over
granite headlands with regular glimpses of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse – the
end to your Cape to Cape journey is in sight. Pass along Quarry Bay and
inspect the Waterwheel before arriving at the lighthouse which stands above the
place where two oceans meet. To celebrate completing the Cape to Cape and all
that we have experienced and achieved together, we will spend our final
evening sharing a meal and watching the slide show of pictures from the hike at
a local restaurant.
