Brunswick Park Curriculum Map Year 4 Spring Term Topic: Henry VIII

 Reading
We will be focusing on NonFiction texts and children will be
developing their skills to retrieve
and record information from
non-fiction.
Guided Reading will continue
with focused groups and their
relative objectives as usual.
Art & Design
 Writing
 SPaG
Children will be writing their own
explanation texts linked to our science
topic of the digestive system.
Children will also be writing a newspaper
report linked to our topic of Henry VIII.
Children will be learning to use simple
organisational devices (such as headings
and subheadings) and will be developing
their editing skills through the ideas of
newspapers.
Children will continue to
develop their sentence
structures using
causal connectives,
parenthesis and
relative clauses.
Children will continue to learn
age appropriate spelling rules
alongside common exception
words and words related to our
class topics.


Children will be studying Tudor artists
concentrating on portraits and the symbolism
within them.
Children will be creating their own Tudor style
art work.
Computing
 Can I make an educational computer game?
Children will start by evaluating a range of
educational games and deciding which features
they like. They will then plan their own game based
on a particular SPaG focus aimed at children in Year
3 and write this using a scratch programme.
Children will then work through their game to
identify and correct any areas that may need
debugging before rolling the games out to Year 3.
Design & Technology and Cookery Enterprise
We will be focusing on Art this half term.

Children will continue to learn French. This term
they will:
 learn the nouns for members of their family.
 How to tell somebody the name and age of
members of their family
 Understand the concept of mon, ma and mes
in French.
Physical
The students will explore and develop their
creativity skills through setting up their own
design company. They will explore graphic
design and consider brand identity. They
will investigate pricing structure and
consider how to make a profit from their
design by preparing a production plan for
their business model.
Music

Can I learn to play an instrument?
Children will be continuing their
instrument lessons. They will learn to play
new notes and new pieces of music. They
will concentrate on their breathing and
continue their understanding of how to
read music.
Education
Children will be learning to play netball, focusing on
their catching and throwing skills. They will learn the
basic rules of the game along with attacking, defending
and team skills.
Religious
Education
Children will look at the key beliefs and
teachings of the major faiths and will be
investigating similarities between them.
Children will be starting swimming lessons after half
term.
