Reading, Writing, & Inquiry
Petroleum world
Do some research to come up with a list of at least 10 different uses
for petroleum. What was the most surprising thing you learned in the
course of your research?
Textbook analysis
Take a careful look at all the textbooks, sourcebooks, electronic books,
and other resources to which you have access. Which of these do you
think is the most useful? Can you find any bias in any of them? If so,
write down what you found and hold a discussion about your findings.
Your favorite mollusk
Find a list of mollusk species and choose one to learn more about.
Prepare a two-minute presentation (in any format) in which you describe
this species to an audience. Make sure to include details that will
interest your listeners!
Photography portfolio
Choose a subject, object, or theme. Then find or borrow a camera —
cell phone cameras are also acceptable — and take at least 50 pictures
within this theme. Narrow this portfolio down to the 25 best ones, then
down to your favorite ten pictures. Describe your project in a written
statement. (Make sure to give it an artistic title!) If you get permission,
you can even hold an exhibit of your work in your class or school.
