Regulations under the Motor Traffic Ordinance 1936.*

AMENDMENTS
OF
THE
TAXI
AND
PRIVATE
HIRE
CAR
REGULATIONS!
1. Regulation 3 of the Taxi and Private H i r e C a r Regulations is repealed.
2 . Regulation 4 of the Taxi and Private H i r e C a r Regulations is a m e n d e d
by omitting from sub-regulation ( 1 ) the definitions of " the City A r e a " and
" t h e O r d i n a n c e " and substituting the following definition:—
" ' t h e O r d i n a n c e ' m e a n s t h e Motor
Traffic Ordinance
1936.".
3 . Regulation 14 of the Taxi and Private H i r e C a r Regulations is a m e n d e d
by omitting from sub-regulation (1) the words " Except in the case of a hiring
for a journey outside the City A r e a " a n d substituting the w o r d s " E x c e p t in the
case of a hiring for a journey of a kind referred to in sub-regulation 24 (4)
w h e r e the distance to be travelled outside the City A r e a exceeds 10 kilometres
o r a journey of a kind referred to in sub-regulation 24 ( 5 ) " .
4. Regulation 18 of the Taxi and Private H i r e C a r Regulations is a m e n d e d
by inserting in p a r a g r a p h (1) (c), after t h e words " that regulation ", the words
", other t h a n t h e kilometre rate prescribed by p a r a g r a p h 24 (4A) (b),".
5 . Regulation 19 of the Taxi and Private H i r e C a r Regulations is a m e n d e d —
( a ) by inserting in sub-regulation ( 1 ) , after the words " b y the v e h i c l e " ,
the w o r d s " o n a journey, other than a j o u r n e y of a kind referred
to in sub-regulation 2 4 ( 4 ) where the distance to be travelled
outside the City A r e a exceeds 10 kilometres o r a j o u r n e y of a kind
referred t o in sub-regulation 2 4 ( 5 ) , " ; and
( b ) by inserting in sub-regulation ( 3 ) , after the words " t h a t t a x i " , the
words ", other t h a n a journey of a kind referred to in sub-regulation
24 ( 4 ) where the distance to be travelled outside the City A r e a
exceeds 10 kilometres or a journey of a kind referred to in subregulation 24 ( 5 ) , " .

6. Regulation 19A of the Taxi and Private Hire Car Regulations is amended
by inserting in sub-regulation ( 1 A ) , after the words " that taxi ", the words ", other
than a journey of a kind referred to in sub-regulation 2 4 (4) where the distance
to be travelled outside the City Area exceeds 10 kilometres or a journey of a
kind referred to in sub-regulation 24 (5),".
7. Regulation 24 of the Taxi and Private Hire Car Regulations is amended—
( a ) by omitting from sub-regulation ( 2 ) the figures and word
cents " and substituting the figures and word " 4 5 cents ";

( b ) by inserting in paragraph ( 3 ) ( a ) , after the word " j o u r n e y " (second
occurring), the words " referred to in sub-regulation ( 1 ) ";
( c ) by omitting from paragraph ( 3 ) ( a ) the figures and word " 2 5 c e n t s "
and substituting the figures and word " 28 cents ";
(d) by inserting in paragraph ( 3 ) ( b ) , after the word " j o u r n e y " (second
occurring), the words " referred to in sub-regulation ( 1 ) ";
( e ) by omitting from paragraph ( 3 ) (b) the figures and word " 2 2 cents "
and substituting the figures and word " 2 5 cents ";
( f ) by inserting in paragraph ( 3 A ) ( a ) , after the word " j o u r n e y "
(second occurring), the words "referred to in sub-regulation ( 1 ) ";
( g ) by omitting from paragraph ( 3 A ) ( a ) the figures and word
cents " and substituting the figures and word " 21 cents ";

( h ) by inserting in paragraph ( 3 A ) ( b ) , after the word " j o u r n e y "
(second occurring), the words "referred to in sub-regulation ( 1 ) ";
( i ) by omitting from paragraph ( 3 A ) ( b ) the figures and word
cents " and substituting the figures and word " 18.75 cents ";

(j) by omitting from sub-regulation ( 4 ) all words from and including
the words " Jervis Bay Territory) is " to the end of paragraph ( a )
and substituting the words " Jervis Bay Territory) is the total of—
( a ) an amount calculated in accordance with the kilometre rate
for the journey; and ";
( k ) by inserting after sub-regulation ( 4 ) the following sub-regulation:—
" ( 4 A ) In relation to a journey referred to in sub-regulation ( 4 ) —
( a ) if the distance to be travelled outside the City Area o n the
journey does not exceed 10 kilometres—the kilometre rate
for the journey is a rate of 28 cents for each kilometre
travelled by the taxi on the journey; and
( b ) if the distance to be travelled outside the City Area on the
journey exceeds 10 kilometres—the kilometre rate for the
journey is a rate of 4 0 cents for each kilometre travelled by
the taxi on the journey.";
(1) by omitting from sub-regulation ( 6 ) the figures and word
seconds " and substituting the figures and word " 3 0 seconds ";

( m ) by omitting from sub-regulation ( 9 ) the symbol and figures " $ 1 2 "
and substituting the symbol and figures " $ 1 5 " ; and
( n ) by omitting from sub-regulation ( 9 ) the symbol and figures " $ 2 . 5 0 "
and substituting the symbol and figure " $3 ".
8. Regulation 26 of the Taxi and Private Hire Car Regulations is amended
by omitting from paragraph (2) (b) the words " specified in paragraph 24 (3) (a) "
and substituting the words "specified in paragraph 2 4 ( 3 ) ( a ) or 2 4 ( 4 A ) ( a ) ".
