The term ‘nerd’ was popularized in 1980’s and
meant: a foolish or contemptible person who
lacks social skills or is boringly studious. By
2017 the meaning of nerd has morphed into:
an individual who does not conform to society's
beliefs that all people should follow trends and
do what their peers do; and is often highly
intelligent.
The transformation of the term ‘nerd’ shows us
that there has not always been an appreciation
for individuals who pursue knowledge and wisdom. In the Bible, Solomon sought
wisdom from God. The pursuit of Godly wisdom is something all Christians
should desire. Wisdom will guide you during difficult times and tough decisions.
Seek knowledge. Seek understanding. Seek wisdom. Be wise my friends.
Proverbs 4:7 “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,
and whatever else you get, get insight.”
Lord, help me to exercise wisdom in the decisions and
choices of my life.
Finish these famous quotes from wise people:
1. The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a ___________.
-William Shakespeare
2. The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up ___________ times.
-Paulo Coelho
3. Let no man pull you so low as to _________________ him.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
4. Life is not about how well you plan; life is about how well you _________________.

February 9TH 2017
What do you do when you are faced with
situations that are difficult to handle? We all
have various coping mechanisms. Our bodies
use coping mechanisms to respond to harsh
circumstances. We can develop coping habits
without realizing it. Sometimes we chew our
finger nails, take deep breaths, laugh
nervously, fight, run, yell, go to sleep, etc.
Today, I will find 10
minutes of quite time.
This time will be spent
thinking about things
that are peaceful and
tranquil.
Daily Affirmation
God can bring
serenity to any
situation.
What is your coping mechanism when you
begin to feel stressed or overwhelmed?
We should be intentional about developing good habits when dealing with bad
circumstances. Your response to a difficult situation has the ability to make the
problem better or worse. Don’t allow hard times to make you lash out in anger.
Taking deep breaths has helped me in my times of trouble. It helps me slow my
mind and calm my spirit. While I am taking my breaths I begin to refocus. I turn
my attention from my issues and begin to focus on trusting God. Find a way to
positively cope with negative moments in your life.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Lord, please help me to feel overjoyed by your presence
instead of feeling overwhelmed by my circumstances.
How many spiritually healthy ways can you think of to help you relax:

Today, I will take
note of the lightest
thing I lift and the
heaviest thing I
carry.
Daily Affirmation
My strength is in
God. He empowers
me to carry heavy
loads.
FEBRUARY 10TH 2017
When I was a teenager, I thought the amount
of weight someone could lift was the truest
indicator of a person’s strength. However,
I’ve discovered that there are different types
of strength. An individual can be physically
strong but spiritually weak.
Being spiritually strong has nothing to do
with the weight you can lift, but it does deal
with the burdens you can carry. How much
can you deal with before you drop your
faith? How much stress (yes, Christians deal with stress too) can you handle
before you drop your worship? God has given you an ability to carry burdens that
would break others. Your strength is in Jesus. We are not empowered by things of
this world. Jesus gives us the ability to carry cumbersome loads. When you
carrying life’s burdens with faith and dignity, you become the testimony to the
strength found in Jesus.
Proverbs 27:3 “A stone is heavy and the sand weighty, But
the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.”
Lord, please help me to carry the burdens in my life in a way
that gives you glory and honor.

Electric outlets are changing. They are still
the usual rectangle shape, but something has
been added to them. Outlets are beginning to
have usb ports included. The new ports have
been popularized by the rise of cell phones
and tablets. We are plugging more devices
into our outlets. Caution should be used
because overuse of an outlet will cause a loss
or disruption of power.
Today, I will spend
at least 1 hour
doing something
spiritually
productive.
Daily Affirmation
God is too important
to be an
afterthought to my
day.
We can be overloaded in the same manner
That an outlet can be overloaded. We can be inundated with responsibilities,
activities, functions, organizations, and people. Take a look at your life and
determine if there are some things that need to be unplugged. What leaves you
feeling drained? Are there some activities that are causing you to feel
overloaded? Ask God to give you clarity on the things and people that need to be
unplugged from you.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if
there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these
things.”
Lord, please help me to have a desire to spend more
time with you.

What’s your
favorite pie? I’ve
heard of humble
pie. No store sells
it, but we all
need a good slice
of it at times.
Being humble is a
good thing. It is
not a sign of
weakness. Humility is a indicator of strength. Humility allows us to appreciate
all the things that God does in our lives. Exercise humility. Show God that you
acknowledge his mercy has made the difference in your life. Don’t carry yourself
with arrogance. Honor God with humility. By the way, I question the validity of
that chart because it didn’t include sweet potato pie.
Micah 6:8 “He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and
what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to
love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
Lord, please help me to have a healthy balance of humility,
pride, and mercy in my approach to life.

People that have no aspirations or expectations
of greatness never have to deal with
disappointment. However, if you live a life
devoid of great expectations, you will never
achieve your life’s purpose.
Today, I will tell
myself (out loud)
“Expect great
things”.
Daily Affirmation
I serve a great God
Disappointment can be a heart wrenching
who sends me great
event. In an attempt to avoid disappointment,
blessings.
you may be tempted abstain from setting goals
for yourself. You may conclude that, when you
expect nothing, you cannot be disappointed
from getting nothing. This approach will lead to an unfulfilling life. Learn how to
handle disappointing times in your life with grace and faith. Do not lower the
expectations for your life because of failure. Work your way through
disappointment with prayer and praise. Surrounding yourself with positive
people helps to get you through disappointing seasons of your life (so, find a
church if you don’t already attend one). Have bold aspirations for your life. Set
high goals for yourself. You will have times of success and disappointment. All
these events culminate to make you a better Christian.
Psalm 62:5 “Yes, my soul, finds rest in God; my
expectation comes from him.”
Lord, please help me to expect to see your glory
and goodness everyday of my life.

PRIZES
Today, I will
make/create a
Valentine’s Day card
and give it to
someone.
Daily Affirmation
God loves me so
that I can show
someone else love.
FEBRUARY 14TH 2017
It’s Valentine’s Day! Statisticbrain.com reports
that on Valentine’s Day there will be 180
million cards exchanged (85% bought by
women) and198 million roses sent (73% by
men). The most common gift given is candy
and the least common gift is a gift card.
If we are not careful, we may judge this day’s
success by measuring how much we were
given. Valentine’s Day put pressure on us to get
a certain amount of gifts or attention in order
to feel loved. My 98 year old grandmother has a life creed, “Love was not put in
your heart to stay, love is not love until you give it away.” She taught me that the
measure of love should not be guided by how others love you, but instead how
you love others. Love cannot be measured in cards, candy, and flowers. Love is a
spiritual attribute. We love others because we receive the love of Christ.
1 John 4:16 “So we have known and believe the love that
God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love
abide in God, and God abides in them.”
Lord, please help my actions to be loving and merciful.
How many ways can you show your love for someone
