Sewing Skills
Finger Puppet
This is a skills session
where the children will
be able to learn and
practise blanket stitch,
running stitch and
sewing on buttons for
use in later sessions.

Weaving: Design
Children will look at
weaves by textile artists,
choose a theme for their
own weave and paint
their design onto planning
sheets.
Weaving
In this session the group will learn how to put together a
weaving frame and select appropriate coloured/textured
materials to represent their theme. They will learn weaving
terminology and technique, how to make holes in their
weaving and to join two colours.
Feather Printing
The children will learn methods
for printing with feathers to
create prints to use in their bird
sculpture.

the children will learn to
make wool pompoms and
to turn these into animals.
Mixed Media Bird Sculpture
The group will learn to make a bird sculpture using wire as a
frame and wrapping in wool, fabric scraps, feathers and
Monday's printed feathers.
Mixed Media Collage: Part 1
We will look at the works of artists who
create textile collages using mixed media. As
a group, the children will paint/draw textured
papers to create the effect of
scales/fur/feathers for use in Thursday's
animal collage.
Friendship Bracelets
The children will learn a knotting
technique to make patterned
friendship bracelets using a
simple card frame.

T Shirt Block Printing
In this session the group will learn to print a t shirt by drawing
their chosen design onto a styrophome block and block
printing in chosen colours onto the t-shirt.

Children will look at the
process of layering felt
fibres to create a felted
scene.
Felt Making
The group will lay their chosen fibres and learn the felting
process of washing/rubbing. There will also be the
opportunity to make felt balls to attach to the scene on Friday
when dry.
Mixed Media Collage: Part 2
Using animal outlines, the children will create
a textured collage by cutting and sticking
papers from Tuesday's session.
Weaving
An opportunity to finish off their
weaving and learn how to cut off
the frame and tie off.

The children will pin their pattern pieces onto felt and cut out.
Then use running stitch to attach all additional felt
pieces/buttons/pompoms.
Sew a Teddy Bear
Finally the group will use blanket stitch to sew
the pieces together, stuff with polyester filling
and add any final details.
Felt Making
Sew felt balls on felted scene
from yesterday and stitch into
felt using a running stitch to add
additional textures.
