Perth Grammar Pupil Support Assessment Arrangements Pupils with learning needs / disability will be considered for assessment arrangements in each subject and in relation to any assessment being undertaken in S1 – S3. Classroom teachers will work with pupils to identify whether support is required in order for them to have an equal chance to show what they know and can do in their subject. Classroom teachers will work in consultation with the Pupil Support department as required. Early identification of assessment arrangements for subjects offers pupils a greater opportunity to develop any necessary skill relating to assessment arrangements and pupils are encouraged to speak to their class teacher at the beginning of the school year. Parents may wish to discuss needs with classroom teachers and pupil support staff to ensure that needs are being met. Parents have an opportunity to do this at parent evenings where appointments with teachers are made and pupil support staff offer a “drop-in” service at this time. Parents can also request an appointment with pupil support staff at any time throughout the year in relation to assessment arrangements by contacting Louise Hale (PT Pupil Support – Learning). There are numerous kinds of assessment arrangements, some of the most common are: - Digital papers (with or without spellcheck and digital reader) - The use of a reader / scribe - Extra Time - Transcription of a paper Assessment arrangements should reflect, as far as possible, the pupil’s normal way of learning and producing work in each subject. The process of assessment arrangements in S1-S3 models the process as requested by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) which pupils, schools and colleges are required to follow for national qualifications. Perth Grammar School Pupil Support (Learning) What can pupils do to help support their learning needs? - Speak to their class teacher about the difficulties they face and possible benefits of accessing assessment arrangements. - Speak to specialist support staff about various options available to them.
