THURSDAY
Welcome to the 2017 school year at Ipswich North State School! The beginning of the
new school year is an exciting time, and the start to 2017 has been no exception
(including the wonderful “three days on, one day off, one day on” week last week!). I
trust the holidays provided everyone with special times with friends and family, and the
opportunity to recharge and refresh for the year of learning ahead.
Our staff actively engaged in a range of professional learning and development
activities over the Student Free Days and I commend and acknowledge them for their
positive and professional attitude. Our staff continue to be one of our school’s great
strengths.
We have begun 2017 with 45 Prep students, and the creation of an eleventh classroom.
A very warm welcome to all families new to Ipswich North State School. Our school has
again continued to see enrolment growth and we have commenced 2017 with 264
students and 11 classes.

A Great Start to 2017!
My sincere thanks and appreciation to all our staff, students, parents and carers who
have ensured such a smooth start to the new school year. It has been wonderful to see
routines remembered quickly and learning already taking place. We are fortunate to
have such a well-deserved and great reputation in and around the community with a
very knowledgeable, professional and approachable staff, supportive parents and
carers and awesome students. With high standards and high expectations, I am
confident 2017 will continue to see our school grow and achieve, as we all work
together towards our school motto: Learn, Believe, Succeed.
Ipswich North State School Dress Code
As the new school year commences, I encourage all parents and carers (and students
as appropriate) to revisit the Dress Code to confirm what the uniform expectations are
at our school. If you are unsure of these expectations, a copy is accessible via our
website or available from our office.
It is very important that everyone at our school has a shared knowledge and
understanding of our policies and procedures. I thank our students, parents and carers
for ensuring that our school uniform is worn with pride and Ipswich North State School
presents as well as we do – clearly one of the reasons for our continued great
reputation in our community (and beyond).

Drop off, Pick up and Parking
Around our School
Tuckshop will be starting back for 2017 on the 9th February! Tuckshop will be open
on Thursday and Friday again this year, and our lovely tuckshop ladies are in the
process of finalising a yummy new menu!
We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to help the P&C with tuckshop, as
the more people we have, the more days we could potentially be open!
Ipswich North State School is a relatively small/medium school. With 264 students enrolled this year,
mornings and afternoons are a time of significant congestion on the streets around our school. We are
continuing to work with Brisbane City Council to review and improve car parking, pick up and drop off
arrangements for our school and while this is underway I would ask all parents, carers and students, to
ensure they continue to observe appropriate safe behaviours at drop off and pick up times.
I would ask all parents and carers to review and use the zone most appropriate for them, and also
consider the following:

the community. So if you enjoy listening to stories come to the
Library this MONDAY at 8:15am to see who our first special
guest is!

There is limited car parking available in the small car park on Fitzgibbon Street.
If using this car park, please ensure you walk out of and into this car park safely,
using the paths provided
Consider parking a few streets away and walking a little further.
The safety and wellbeing of our students are our primary concerns and I again thank all parents and
carers for your co-operation and attention to these matters.
Before School Home Reading
If you would like to read your home readers to one of our teachers we will be in the Library on a
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning before school at 8:15am. You can pop down with your
home reader and we would love to hear you read.
Religious Instruction
Religious Instruction will be starting back this year on the 06th February,
as we have changed to the new day of Monday! RI classes will run from
2:15pm to 2:45pm every Monday, with classes being divided into Junior
(Year 1 & 2), Middle (Year 3 & 4), and Senior (Year 5 & 6) groups.
Please note, Prep students do not participate in RI.
If your child participated in RI in 2016, they will continue to do so until the
office is contacted to say otherwise. If you would like your child to
participate in RI for 2017, please see the office for a form.
When you visit us we will have a special bookmark we will be filling in. Once you have had 10 visits
you will get a certificate on parade for super reading. After 25 visits you will get a special surprise.
We look forward to seeing you there next week!
