Design and Philosophy
Built on the model of the classic Chateaux of the 17th Century, the decoration is focused on the theme of
the Musketeers and the Potsdam Chateau: knights in armour, Renaissance style objects in the lobby and
various other areas of the hotel convey a cosy congenial atmosphere.
The charm takes effect as soon as you arrive: the “Royal Court”, the hotel’s hall, with its statues, knights in
armour and banners, houses “Excalibur”, the famous sword of King Arthur, set in its stone. The Dream
Castle Hotel combines references to ancient Europe in cultural, literary and architectural fields: the
“Musketeers” restaurant, the “Excalibur” Bar, the “Baron Von Münchhausen” and Rapunzel Suites, the
medieval armour.
Architecture
The expression “where modern meets classic” takes on greater meaning in the heart of our establishment.
The decors set guests at the heart of Medieval times, being however supported by the most modern and
high-technology infrastructure and devices. The chateau is built in a U-shape around French style gardens,
opening on to a small lake which is a popular setting for summer festivities.
The Urban Art Workshop is one of the largest architectural offices in Belgium
The Urban Art Workshop founded in 1979, specialises in the most varied programmes for construction and
renovation: housing, offices, shopping centres and hotels. The Urban Art Workshop has been in charge of
wide-ranging projects for over 15 years, as much in Belgium as abroad. The office created amongst others
the Nile City Financial Centre in Cairo, the Mövenpick Dream Castle at Disneyland® Paris and the Riviera
Hotel in Monaco. Their style is contemporary, but conscious of the past. The Urban Art Workshop’s
challenge is to seek a stable, quality environment and build a world in which we can live far away from
transient trends. Its novel approach: developing projects of high environmental value based on
sustainability and the preservation of natural resources. In order to meet its objectives and to guarantee
the performance of each venture, the Urban Art Workshop has recently extended its business to include
the project management and engineering of its projects.

The history of the characters that have inspired us in the naming of our rooms
Baron von Münchhausen
Born in 1720, the Prussian Baron Von Münchhausen served in the Russian army and most famously fought
against the Turks. He was an adventurer who travelled around the world, having incredible adventures,
which he liked to recount in a merry and boastful manner. He told, for example, of how he made a journey
to the moon, sat astride a cannonball and once lived inside a whale. He thus owes his success to these
incongruous adventures, which have been exaggerated even further by certain writers.
Monsieur de Tréville
The father of Mr. de Tréville faithfully served King Henri IV throughout his wars. The latter thanked him by
allowing him to take “Fidelis et Fortis” as his motto. Mr. de Tréville senior left his motto and his sword to
his son. This is how he was admitted to the house of Louis XIII, where he served so well with his sword and
was so true to his motto that the king developed a real fondness for him. He became the captain of the
King’s Musketeers. These Musketeers often ran up against the guards of Cardinal Richelieu, but they were
always sustained by their captain. Mr. de Tréville was worshipped by his men, who, at the same time as
admiring him, trembled before him and obeyed him. Mr. de Tréville always remained an honest man.
Amongst his guards he had the quartet d’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, the heroes of the Alexandre
Dumas novel “The Three Musketeers”.
The Three Musketeers
The novel “The Three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas is based on real characters. The action takes place
in 1625 during the reign of Louis XIII. It is the story of a young boy, d’Artagnan, from Gascony, the land of
generous gestures, challenges and style. Dumas gives a historical dimension to his hero by attributing
fictional exploits to him. A young man, with a long brown face leaves his native Gascony, dressed in a wool
doublet and riding an old Béarn nag, that makes him look ridiculous. He has fifteen blazons, a letter of
introduction addressed to Mr. De Tréville, commander of the Musketeers of the King’s guard, and the
advice of Mr. D’Artagnan senior: “fight ceaselessly, fight even harder, since duels are forbidden and
consequently, fighting takes twice as much courage”. This is how he comes to consider every smile as an
insult, every look as provocation and his journey comes to be littered with opportunities for a fight. On
arriving in Paris, he becomes the friend of three gentlemen, Athos, Porthos and Aramis. The quartet gets
together following a victorious battle against the guards of Cardinal Richelieu. In the service of the royal
couple, they go on to rescue Queen Anne of Austria from the hands of Richelieu. The treacherous cardinal

uses his influence on the king to get him to ask the queen to wear the twelve diamond tags he gave her to
the next hunt ball. However, the queen has given the precious set to her lover, the Duke of Buckingham.
D’Artagnan and his friends are sent on a mission to recover the jewels in England. D’Artagnan finds himself
battling with the formidable Milady de Winter, the cardinal’s agent. She will have the faithful chambermaid
to the queen, with whom he has fallen in love, executed. Pursued by Richelieu’s guards, d’Artagnan and his
friends succeed in returning the queen’s jewels. Finally reconciled with Cardinal Richelieu, d’Artagnan is
promoted to lieutenant, while Athos, Portos and Aremis leave the Musketeers.
Cardinal Richelieu
The real Cardinal Richelieu bore no resemblance to the character described by Alexandre Dumas in his
novel. He was Louis XIII’s first minister and chaplain to the Queen Mother Marie of Medici. He pursued two
objectives: to restore royal authority and establish French predominance on the continent of Europe. He
took on internal struggles against the Protestants and the nobility and increased taxation to finance his
wars, causing revolts and uprisings. An art lover, he promoted the distribution of pamphlets endorsing his
actions. He created The French Academy, enlarged the Sorbonne and built what was to become the Royal
Palace. He laid the foundations of a colonial empire where the Company of New France set up its colonies.
Thanks to his foreign policy, the triumph of French dominance established itself. France was about to
become the leading European military power. An indefatigable, very ambitious worker, he became the
remorseless defender of the crown. He remained faithful to Louis XIII all his life and his government marked
a point of no return in the formation of a strong State and introduced a new type of man: the civil servant.
Excalibur
This is the legend of Merlin, King Arthur and his companions. Arthur was born as a result of the liaison between
his mother, the Duchess of Ygrène and King Uther Pendragon. This illegitimate child was put in the hands of
Merlin the Sorcerer. On the death of King Uther, Great Britain was left without a legitimate ruler. One day, in the
cathedral square, a sword was found, stuck in a stone. It was the legendary Sword Excalibur. It bore an
inscription, according to which only the rightful king could extract it. All the knights tried their luck in vain. Young
Arthur, manservant to his cousin, who was a knight, had been given the responsibility of carrying his equipment
for a competition, but had forgotten it. While searching for a sword to replace the one he had forgotten, he
found Excalibur, pulled it out without difficulty and took it to his cousin. His uncle, immediately recognising the
legendary sword, ordered his nephew to explain where he had got it. On returning to the stone, Arthur proved
that he was well and truly the only one able to release the sword, a sign of his divine right. He was immediately
crowned king. The knights swore fidelity to Arthur and formed the brotherhood of the Round Table.
