SURGICAL COMPETENCE ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ o Cranial trauma: can operate independently all cranial trauma cases including epidural hematoma, acute and chronic subdural hematoma, skull fractures, cerebral contusions, and intra-axial hematomas. o Spinal traumas: can do all spinal procedures in subaxial cervical spine, dorsal and lumber spine. Regarding the high cervical spine, done only retropharyngeal odontoidectomy (did not do any transoral approaches), C1-C2 wiring and transarticular screw, anterior and posterior, occipito-cervical fusion. o Cranial vascular procedures: assisted in 10 cases of aneurysm clipping (applied a clip once (PCOM aneurysm)), but have not done any endovascular procedures), have not operated or assisted in any AVM cases. o Stereotactic procedures: operated and assisted in more than 30 stereotactic procedures including biopsies, stereotactic craniotomies, cyst aspiration with omaya reservoir placement and stereotactic amygdalohippocampectomy (5 cases) Used 3 frames, Leksell, Liebenger Z-D and CRW. o Brain tumors: can efficiently do convexity, olfactory groove, lateral and medial sphenoid, suprasellar, CPA, parasagittal, and falcine. Have not operated clival or petroclival meningiomas. Operated independently most gliomas. Actively assisted in vestibular and trigeminal schwannomas. Operated trans-cranial and transsphenoidal pituitary adenomas and craniopharyngiomas. o Spinal procedures: done most approaches for degenerative spinal disorders, fractures, and spinal tumors. o Congenital: can operate efficiently congenital hydrocephalus, myelomeningocele and tethered cord. o Nerve injuries: many cases of ulnar, median, radial, lateral popliteal nerve repairs, with or without sural nerve grafts. Have not done any cases of brachial plexus neurolysis,. o Pain procedures: done independently percutaneus RF trigeminal rhizotomy and percutaneous facet & sacro-iliac joints block. ! /4 4 o Endoscopic procedures: assisted actively in 19 cases of endoscopic 3rd ventriculostomy , 5 cases of endoscopic colloid cyst removal and independently done 6 cases of 3rd ventriculostomy o Epilepsy surgery: 5 cases of stereotactic amygdalohippocampectomy via radiofrequency ablation, 12 cases of radiosurgery for epilepsy, and operated 10 cases of open amygdalohippocampectomy, 3 cases of formal temporal lobectomy o Approaches: Subfrontal, pterional, subtemporal suboccipital, frontoorbitozygomatic transsphenoidal. o Radiosurgery: Assisted in the treatment of 50 cases using Gamma knife Model C (including outpatient clinic attendance, frame application, dose planning and treatment execution) (under the supervision of Professor Jeremy C. Ganz) at the Gamma Knife Center, Cairo, Egypt.
