Feline Frenzy
Catnip Mat
Materials
• Sewing Machine
• 1 10x13” or 11x14” fabric piece of both print and coordinating solid
• fabric glue stick
• sew-in Velcro
• coordinating ribbon
• catnip
• small plastic bags (craft section at Wal-mart)
Steps
1. Cut print and solid fabric to desired size.
2. Press, matching right sides together
3. Press a ½” to 1” fold at the designated top of the mat (i.e. one of the short sides,
or if the print is not multi-directional, then the top of the print pattern.
4. With right sides together and using a 1/8” to 3/8” seam allowance, stitch around
the sides and bottom of the mat leaving the top (where the fold is located) open.

5. Clip the corners and trim around the edges.
6. Cut 5-7” of Velcro (depending on how large your mat is), and place fabric glue on
the back of the Velcro. The glue will assist in holding the Velcro in place while it
is being sewn in.
7. Sew Velcro in place. Note: Hook part of Velcro is being sewn in here.

8. Place other piece of Velcro (loop part of Velcro) on the solid side repeating the
directions in Step 6 and 7.
9. Turn the catnip mat right side out and press.

10. Using the presser foot as a guide, sew to close the openings remaining of each
side of the Velcro.
11. Press Velcro together to close mat. Starting at the top of the mat (Velcro side),
roll mat up and tie with a coordinating ribbon.
12. Sell with of 1-2 Tbps of catnip in baggie. Attach tag.
