Assignment 10 - Math

Math 147 - Assignment 10 - Spring 2013 - BSU - Jaimos F Skriletz
1
The following assignment is worth 20 points and will be graded. Solutions to the problems must be written up on a separate
piece of paper using correct mathematical notation. To receive full credit, answers must be supported by a sufficient amount
of work using the methods presented in class. These problems are due by class time on Monday April 22nd.
1. Inverse Trigonometric Functions
(a) Find the exact value of tan(sin−1 (11/61)).
(b) Write the following expression as an algebraic expression in x: sin(tan−1 (x))
2. Law of Sines
Use the Law of Sines to find all the unknown angles and
side lengths of the following triangle. (Note, you are to
find all solutions that have the same given sides and angels
as this triangle.)
3. Law of Cosines
Use the Law of Cosines to solve the following triangle for all unknown angles and side lengths.
4. Baseball Diamond
The official dimensions for a baseball diamond (square) is a length of 90 feet for each side (or the distance from one
base to the next base). The pitchers mound is not placed in the exact middle of the diamond and is closest to home
base. If the distance from the pitchers mound to home base is 60.5 feet, what is the distance from third base to the
pitchers mound? Be sure to include a diagram of a baseball diamond in your solution. (note the triangle you draw is
not a right triangle as the pitchers mound is not in the center of the diamond.)
