published editions of the newspapers printed Monday - Friday, from September 14, 2015 to
November 13, 2015 inclusive.
Contestants must also study these pages so as to familiarize themselves of the material, as the
questions and answers will not be published prior to the competition.

Bermuda Olympic Association Sports Quiz Contest 2016
Rules of Competition
GENERAL:
1. The quiz contest will be concerned with facts, topics and events about Bermuda Sport
History, The Bermuda Olympic Association and their International Games and Bermuda
Sport Achievements.
2. Questions and answers in the various categories above have been prepared. Answers in
brackets are not required in responses; however contestants are required to provide
complete answers as per the answers in the book. The contest Moderator will be the
arbiter of all responses and will at times be assisted by the contest chairman.
3. All Middle School (MS) and Senior 1 (S1) students are eligible to enter a team in this
competition.
4. For the purposes of this competition there shall be at least two (2) semi-finals from which
the first 3 teams from each semi-final will qualify for the finals. A total of six teams shall
qualify for the finals
5. All registered teams will compete in semi-final competitions.
6. Teams will be submitted in writing to the Bermuda Olympic Association, which team
may not be altered for the finals unless approved by the Quiz Contest Committee.
7. Each team will be comprised of seven (7) members with five (5) competing at all events.
Selected Team names should be submitted with its members list.
8. Representative teams must be submitted in writing to the Bermuda Olympic Association
office at least 3 weeks in advance of the first semi-final competition.
9. The Quiz Contest Committee will appoint a moderator, judges, scorers, and a timekeeper
to all semi-final and final competitions who shall administer each competition and shall
be the arbiters of all disputes.
10. Each participant will be recognized for his/her participation in this competition.
11. Major prizes will be awarded to the first 4 places in the Final with recognition awards
presented to all team members.
12. Specific competition rules are as provided in the attached.

Bermuda Olympic Association Sports Quiz Contest 2016
Specific Game Rules
1. Each team will, prior to the competition, select a number which shall determine the order
of questioning for the duration of the competition.
2. Each team shall elect a team captain whose name shall be submitted to the moderator
A question will be asked to an individual (who may not confer with his/her team
members).
(a) If the individual answers correctly, score 10 points to his/her team.
(b) If answered incorrectly, the question is open to his/her full team (the team may
confer).
(c) If team answers correctly, score 5 points to his/her team.
(d) If answered incorrectly, the question is open to the next team (the team may confer).
(e) If answered correctly, score 5 points to his/her team.
(f) If answered incorrectly, open to next team until correct answer is given or all teams
have had an opportunity to field the question.
(g) If answered correctly by any subsequent team, score 5 points for that team.
(h) A team successfully or unsuccessfully fielding an open question shall not forfeit its
normal tum in the order of questioning as establishes in game rule # 1 above.
(i) Any team member may answer an open question referred to the team by the
moderator
3. Time Limit: The time limit for answering any questions is 15 seconds.
4. Length of Games: In all competitions teams will be asked 4 questions in each of the 4
contest categories at the conclusion of which points accumulated by each team will be
totaled and positions awarded.
5. Answers: The discretion of the moderator will be exercises in determining whether an
answer is correct or incorrect. The decision of the moderator is final.
(a) Should a team need to confer on a question, care should be exercised to ensure that
one person is designated to respond to the question. Multiple answers from team
members may forfeit the team response.
6. Tie Breakers: In the event of a tie, a question will be asked to each team on which they
should confer. Each team will write their answer on a slip of paper and hand it to the
moderator. Questioning will proceed on this basis until the tie is broken.
7. Should teams miss-field questions, then other teams will field the same question on a
rotational basis. The moderator, who shall have sole jurisdiction over the procedure, will
make such decisions.
