How To Make an Edible Chew Toy
Supplies:
Sweet potatoes
Sheet pan
Parchment or foil
Sharp knife
Round cookie cutter
Hemp or jute rope
Scissors
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Wash the sweet potatoes then slice them into rounds approximately ½”
thick.
3. Using a cookie cutter, remove the center of each round. The cookie cutter
should be just a bit wider than the diameter of your rope once braided.
4. Place on cookie sheet and bake for 2 ½ hours, then flip and bake for
another 2 ½ hours. They should be totally dried out and hard once done. If
they are still squishy, keep baking and check every 30 minutes or so.
5. Once baked, allow them to fully cool.
6. Braid together 9 equal lengths of hemp or jute rope to make a thick rope.
7. Make a knot at the end of the rope then string on two sweet potato rings.
8. Make another knot then string on two more rings.
9. Repeat until you reach the end of the rope. Finish with a knot.
