As we begin the second semester of the 2016-2017 school year, we congratulate our
students on the successes they have attained thus far. We would like to provide you
with information regarding the 8th grade end of the year activities, to afford you the
opportunity to make the appropriate arrangements. Please note that students will
earn their activities by meeting the academic, attendance, and behavior
requirements during the 2nd semester.
Furthermore, students who have not met the following requirements during the 2nd
semester will be excluded from these activities. Additionally, their promotion to the
high school in August 2017 will be adversely affected if they are academically
unsuccessful.
Academics
Students with 3 or more “F” grades for any grade-reporting period during the
2nd semester will be excluded from participating in the 8th grade activities.
****A student with a combination of 6 or more “F” grades from the 1st
semester and 2nd semester will be considered for retention.
Attendance
Students who have been marked absent for more than 10% of their
attendance days within a grading period will be excluded from 8th grade
activities. Students with more than seven (7) 1st period tardies or more than
four (4) tardies to periods 2-7 within a grading period will be excluded also.
Behavior
Students who have been recommended for expulsion, found in possession of
a controlled substance, suspended for 10% of their attendance days, or
involved in a fight will be excluded from the end of the year activities.
Beginning Tuesday, January 17, 2017 all 8th grade students will be placed on
a cumulative disciplinary referral program. Students receiving 2 or more
referrals to the ICE (Intervention and Career Exploration) Center, located in
room 505, during a grading period will become ineligible for the designated
activity:
Grading Period 4 January 4th –February 10th: Student will not receive
yearbook early or participate in the Yearbook Signing Party
Grading Period 5 February 14th – March 24th: Student will not be
eligible to attend the 8th grade dance
Grading Period 6 April 3rd- May 31st: Student will not be eligible to
attend the Knott’s Berry Farm trip
In the event a student becomes ineligible to participate in any 8th grade activity, they
MAY have their eligibility reinstated by obtaining a community service assignment
from Dr. Kenney and completing it prior to the date of the activity for which they are
ineligible. Students are limited to two (2) community service assignments.
Below is a list of the 2016-2017 8th grade activities with guidelines and a brief explanation of each:
