MILLIMAGASSETT LAKE T7 R8, Penobscot Co. U. S. G. S. Millinocket Lake, Me. Fishes Salmon Brook trout (squaretail) Yellow perch Hornpout (bullhead) Smelt Eel White sucker Longnose sucker Minnows Fallfish (chub) Creek chub Lake chub Common shiner Redbelly dace Blacknose dace Yellowbelly sunfish Physical Characteristics Area - 1410 acres Maximum depth - 62 feet Temperatures Surface - 74° F. 62 feet - 48° F. Suggested Management Millimagassett Lake provides ideal water quality for cold-water game fishes. Management should be for brook trout and salmon. Water below the 20-foot level is cold and well-oxygenated during late summer. Growth analysis shows that the growth rate of salmon in this lake is about one year behind the average growth for Maine lakes. Populations of smelt, the salmon's chief food, are present, but the large size of the smelt may preclude efficient utilization by the salmon, and thus affect the growth rate. Natural spawning areas for salmon in the outlet appear to be adequate. Populations of yellow perch and other coarse species are present, and undoubtedly reduce game fish production to some extent by competition. No stocking of any kind is recommended at the present time.
