Course: Health Science Intro to Medical Terminology

Divide words into component parts(prefixes,
combining forms, and suffixes)
Identification of word components – prefixes, roots, suffixes,
and combining forms on component pattern worksheets.
Assessed on summative test.
Analyze meanings of medical terminology
Define terms that apply to the structural organization
of the body
Pronounce and spell medical terms correctly
Recognize common medical abbreviations, diagnostic
tests, and procedures
List, define, and use the medical terminology from each
body system covered, in their own sentence. Define specific
body system terminology on chapter assessment.
Analyze how different anatomical terminology refers to
certain specific locations in the body. Students will be able
to define the specific terms on chapter-specific summative
assessments
Students will pronounce and spell each term selected for
each chapter. Students will have to attempt each term
aloud when reviewing as a class and we will have a
summative spelling and pronunciation test for each chapter
(200 words total).
Students will list and analyze the different abbreviations,
diagnostic tests, and procedures that are unique to each
body system we cover. Students will have to identify these
on the chapter summative assessment.
