200 Kilometers for a Little More Life
Phil longboards in 4-day journey from Nuremberg to Munich
Nuremberg’s Lobo Kids Crew starts fundraising campaign
– in benefit of young girl with Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome –
[email protected]
ELSA is 3 years young.
She suffers from Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, a rare condition which only one in 50,000 children are
born with. It is also referred to as Chomosome-4p Syndrome, as a partial deletion of the short-arm of
chromosome 4 can be detected among children affected by this condition. Elsa looks different than
other children, and she will also develop differently. It is not likely that Elsa will ever be able to speak.
She may never learn to walk. But she tries anyway. Sometimes she manages a crawling manoeuvre or
two. Elsa’s condition cannot be cured, but can be treated with a customized symptomatic therapy
which, along with many other therapeutic aids on site, can help her to enhance her capacity for
movement and improve her overall quality of life. This therapy is expensive and there are only a
handful of therapists who are specialised in treating Elsa’s genetic defect.
PHIL is 34 years old. He can’t imagine a life without movement. There is nothing he loves more than
rolling through the streets on his longboard, and he enjoys sharing his fascination with others. Three
years ago, Phil founded Lobo Kids Crew in the Nuremberg neighbourhood of Gostenhof and every
week he teaches kids and adolescents how to ride longboard. Phil knows that Elsa will never be able to
stand alone on a longboard...and therefore he wants to do something for her.
In September Phil will roll on his longboard from Nuremberg to Munich in the name of Lobo Kids
Crew. About 200 kilometers. Rain or shine. Without a backup plan. He doesn’t need much: a raincoat
perhaps and a sleeping bag. He’ll cover up to 60 kilometers per day: not an easy task, when you take
into account that a longboard travels an average of 15km/h on a straight stretch.
In order to help Elsa, Lobo Kids Crew needs a little tailwind and some start-up help. Companies
can donate 1 Euro for every kilometer covered by Phil, and private parties 10 cents per kilometer. All
money collected will directly benefit Elsa.
