F-2 Music at Truganina College Students in Years F-2 have been learning to sing and perform actions to the song ‘Happy’. They have been learning about musical notes and rhythms and have been playing along using different percussion instruments. Diing and Aleaseya from Miss Sawyer’s class are using the Guiro’s to create their own rhythm. Filmon, Nevaeh and Tanmayee from Miss Gregory’s class are practising a rhythm in their group. Learning Intention: We are learning to sing, perform actions and play percussion instruments to the chorus of the song ’Happy’. Success Criteria - I will know I am successful when I can: Sing the lyrics to the chorus of ‘Happy’. Perform the actions in the chorus of ‘Happy’. Play my percussion instrument in time with the song. By Cassie McCawley Music Teacher Anshu, Gop, Manha, Omar and Takdir from Miss Sawyer’s class were practising together before performing the chorus of ‘Happy’ in front of the class. Teaching and Learning in Room 12 Developing the Language of Learning at School and at Home Making predictions with Mrs Sujith Learning Intention: We are learning about using the prediction comprehension strategy when reading. Success Criteria - I know I am successful when I can: Justify my predictions based on evidence from the text. Students in 3A always look forward to reading sessions, especially when they get the opportunity to use their comprehension strategies when reading a text they are interested in. In the last two weeks, students have practiced making predictions and asking questions. Two texts were used to reinforce the use of these strategies during our whole class sessions – Sam and Dave Dig a Hole (a 2015 Caldecott Honor Book) and A Visitor for Bear. Anchor charts were then created with the students about the reading comprehension strategies. Students then write letters to show their understanding of the strategy in their Readers’ Notebook. A letter written to Mrs. Sujith by Ria Katuwal to show how she used predicting during Independent Reading. Dear Mrs. Sujith In the book, Zac Power Test Drive, I predict Zac will be testing new but dangerous equipment and will get in trouble with his parents. I predict this because on the front cover there is an illustration of a helicopter and because Zac is just 13, it’s too dangerous for him to be flying a helicopter. Thanks for reading. Your student Ria Teaching and Learning in Room 19 Developing the Language of Learning at School and at Home Exploring the text ‘Holes’ with Mrs Wembridge Learning Intention: We are learning to understand the characters of ‘Holes’. Success Criteria - I will be successful when I can: Provide a detailed summary of the chapter we have read. Identify key vocabulary with the text. Explain and justify where Louis Sachar got his ideas from. Room 19 students have been studying the author Louis Sachar. We are currently reading the book ‘Holes’. As a class we are able to use all of the comprehension strategies (ask questions, make connections, visualise, infer, identify the author's purpose and summarise) before, during and after we read. Vocabulary highlighted by students include the following: Crish Patel - courage, strength, survival and brave. Iman Fahad -scorching, perched, wasteland, desert and shivered. Taye Paul- scorching, shrivelled, hovers and stifling. Students were able to summarise chapters we had read: Noah Green - Stanley lived a poor life after his Great Grandfather robbed a pig from a woman. He had a curse put on him and his relatives. This gave Stanley and his family really bad luck. Maryam Malik- Stanley dug and dug and finally he dug and he felt proud. Elya had a baby she named it Stanley because it was Yelnats backwards. Paarth Jatwani - Stanley had a hard time digging his hole because he had blisters on each of his fingers.
