Getting started
PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES
An alternative route: begin on the Research Guide
for Psychology, and select the Peer Reviewed
Articles tab.
Begin with one or several (not more than 4)
keywords that describe your topic.
PsycINFO database has peer-reviewed articles from
scholarly journals, book chapters, and dissertations
in psychology, behavioral science and mental health.
PsycArticles has full text, peer-reviewed scholarly
articles from nearly 80 psychology journals published
by the American Psychological Association (APA)
from 1894 to the present.
These databases have sophisticated searches,
allowing limiting by age group, study methodology
and other categories unique to psychology.
Search tips
Truncation is an asterisk * and will get multiple versions of
the root word: child* = child, children, childhood
“quotation marks” around phrases will find words exactly
as you entered them, in that order.
Before you
check out the unique
limiters PsycINFO offers , lower down on the
screen.
indicates the full text is not in the PsycINFO
database. Click on it to find full text elsewhere or to
request through Interlibrary Loan.
Many limiters are
unique to PsycINFO.
You can also select an
Age Group such as
Aged or Very Old.

2. Click Databases A-Z
3. Click the P shortcut, or scroll down to P
4. Click the database title, PsycINFO
5. (If you are off-campus, enter your last name
and PCC ID)

The title of the article is in blue.
The ‘Abstract’ is a summary of the
article and its research conclusions.
It is important, and part of the
article. Read it; then decide if you
want the entire article.
Read the Abstracts to get ideas
about how you might focus your
topic.
Click on ‘Full Text’ to see the
complete article. You can print,
save, or email from the PDF or
HTML version.
“Get This Item” indicates that the
full text isn’t available in this
database. Click on it to find full text
or request item through
Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

following options on the right side of
the screen, in the Tools menu.
Limit to Full Text
if you need the
