Dr. Burns is an expert on modern British Literature and the development of the
English language. He has spent two semesters teaching in England for Marian’s
Travel Abroad program. He completed a year-long fellowship in Great Britain while
studying for his doctorate. He has also taught numerous courses during his tenure
at Marian to include Modern & Contemporary British Literature and Shakespeare
and is very knowledgeable about the history and development of the English
language.
The evening lecture will review the timeline from the earliest civilizations, now
known as Great Britain. He will also examine the impact of some of the most
influential monarchs right up to the present monarchy of Queen Elizabeth II.
Immediately following the lecture, Valerie and Wayne Graczyk, Tour Directors for
Someday Travel, will conduct an information session about their Best of England
trip scheduled for May 23-31, 2013, More information about this trip can be found
at www.somedaytravel.com or by calling 920-539-0085.
JUST RETURNED FROM TUSCANY
Did you know the Bell Tower, or the Leaning Tower of Pisa, has been stabilized? Or
has it? If you want to learn how they corrected the “leaning”, and how long it took to do
so, go to our web site, www.somedaytravel.com and click on Blog, then go to the
Tuscany 2012 blog. You’ll find it quite interesting. In addition to Pisa, we followed our
“Off the Beaten Path” itinerary and discovered such beautiful cities as Lucca, Viareggio,
Carrara, Colonnata, Volterra and San Gimigniano. We walked inside the Renaissance
Walls that surround Lucca, which is one of the few walls still intact that surrounds an
entire city. We spent time in Viareggio which is famous for building luxury ships and
sailboats, and perhaps for being situated on one of the most beautiful beaches on the
Mediterranean Sea. Carrara was absolutely fabulous. We actually were walking around
and in the marble quarry from which Michelangelo personally got his marble for his
masterpieces, the Pieta, David and Moses. The quaintness of the villages of Volterra
and San Gimigniano were enough to convince us that we want to return and spend more
time in each. Again, our blog on our website will give you more details.
Has the Leaning Tower of Pisa
finally been stabilized?

EXPLANATION OF OUR PAYMENT DEADLINES
We are often asked, “Is it too late to go on the trip? The deadline is past”. Under the Terms and
Conditions we have listed suggested dates for payments. The only two that are firm are the
deposit and the final payment. The deposit is an amount paid to reserve a place on the trip. This
is generally paid first and should accompany the Pilgrim Reservation Form along with the
Someday Travel Summary Form. There is no set date for this payment but it must be paid once
the traveler makes the commitment to join the tour (the check is mailed with the reservation
form/summary form). The 50% payment amount is given a due date but this is more of a
recommendation. Why? Because over the years we have found that most people find it easier to
make their payment in installments than in one lump sum on the final payment date. For
example, the England tour has a suggested 50% payment date of December 1, 2012. This
payment can be made at any time prior to that date and even after, but must be made no later
than the Final Payment date.
The final payment date is the one that must be met, i.e., the entire payment is due. This generally
falls 90 days prior to the trip’s first day and is set because we need to lock in airline tickets, etc.
and this is generally about 90 days prior to the trip’s departure date.
We will try to make this clearer on future trips.
