Overview – What is PowerPoint?
• It is presentation software that allows you to create slide
shows that can integrate images, video, narration, charts,
and more.
• Use it to convey a message or a story that is broken down
into slides. “Think of each slide as a blank canvas for the
pictures, words, and shapes that will help you build your
story.” [Microsoft]

PowerPoint Vocabulary
 Slide: the building blocks for any presentation, slide show, or photo album
 Clip Art: A single piece of ready-made art
 Layout: The arrangement of elements, such as title and subtitle text, lists, pictures, tables,
charts, AutoShapes, and movies, on a slide.
 Placeholders: A placeholder is simply a space on your slide where you eventually put
things. It’s a box with dotted borders, and these boxes hold your titles, text, and objects,
such as charts, images, and tables.
 Template: a file that contains the styles in a presentation, including the type and size of
bullets and fonts; placeholder sizes and positions; background design; fill color schemes;
and more. Using a template is the best way to make sure that your entire presentation has
a uniform look and feel.
