A vacancy has arisen for a physiotherapist to work as part of the Integrated Therapy team working in the community of
Hambleton and Richmondshire. Support is provided from Senior Specialists, the Clinical Lead and Operational
Leader.
We are looking for a clinician with experience and interest in the management of patients with Neurological conditions.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work with a complex case load, to join our friendly multi-disciplinary
team working across several community settings.
The successful candidate will provide individual and/or group activities as part of the assessment and treatment
programmes for the client group.
The Integrated Therapy service in Hambleton and Richmondshire is a large progressive and dynamic service which
continues to develop. The team is friendly and supportive and mentorship for this role will be provided by the Clinical
Lead.

Integrated Occupational Therapy Service on a 9 month fixed term contract. The successful applicant will join the wellestablished team within the Hambleton & Richmondshire locality. The post will provide an excellent opportunity to
enhance clinical skills, as well as developing leadership and management skills.
We are looking for a highly motivated occupational therapist with excellent communication and organisational skills.
You will need to work as part of a team and on your own, frequently using your own initiative. You will work with a
wide multidisciplinary team and be involved with clients with a range of multiple medical, social and emotional
problems. The role will include carrying out assessments with patients at a variety of settings, therefore being able to
travel independently is an essential part of this job.
Participation in service developments and clinical governance is also expected, supporting the existing team to
implement changes.
Continuing professional development is actively encouraged and regular support and supervision will be provided by a
Band7 Occupational therapist within the team.
You will be a qualified and HPC registered OT with knowledge of local Health and Social Care environments. You will

The service also has a comprehensive Auditory Implant service which includes bone anchored, middle ear and
cochlear implants. The main purpose-built department is located in The James Cook University Hospital,

The Radiotherapy Physics section of the Department of Medical Physics at The James Cook University Hospital has a
vacancy for a Clinical Scientist.
Middlesbrough lies just outside of the North York Moors National Park and is within easy reach of other areas of
outstanding natural beauty including the nearby coastal region of Whitby.
The Department comprises 40 scientific and technical staff. The department prides itself on delivering state-of the-art
treatment techniques to our patient population and research and development is actively encouraged. This post is part
of a team of 14 physicists and 10 technologists working in radiotherapy physics.
The successful candidate will possess a good knowledge of the radiotherapy process and will contribute to routine
clinical service delivery and the development of new techniques and technologies across all areas of the service.
Applicants for this post should be HCPC Registered as a Clinical Scientist or in a position to achieve registration within
12 months. We also welcome applications from individuals able to achieve registration via ACS route 2 within 3 years.
The department has five Elekta Synergy linacs with Agility MLC (three of these equipped with FFF technology), one
superficial/deep X-ray set and a TomoTherapy Hi-Art unit. Pre–treatment imaging consists of Siemens and Toshiba
wide bore CT scanners with associated ProSoma virtual simulation software. Treatment plans are produced using
Oncentra MasterPlan and Monaco. We have an active brachytherapy service, treating a variety of sites using our
Nucletron remote after-loading brachytherapy unit.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Pharmacy Manager with experience in management
and clinical pharmacy to join the Senior Pharmacy Management Team at South Tees NHS Foundation Trust.
With a good knowledge of the medicines optimisation agenda you will be responsible for developing and managing
the provision of a co-ordinated and comprehensive clinical pharmacy service, including medicines management for
the Trust, ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines. The clinical pharmacy service is provided by a team of
specialist pharmacists and technicians optimising medication therapy throughout the organisation by supporting the
clinical staff in their prescribing practice
You will be responsible for supervising the duties of senior pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists and senior
technicians within James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital, Northallerton to ensure we are compliant
with national guidance and recommendations of our auditors.
You will need to have excellent communication within the team and be able to work unsupervised to meet specific
deadlines. Excellent team-working skills are a priority and will contribute to the process of service development and
innovation within the department driven by your own initiative and enthusiasm.
As part of the Pharmacy Senior Management team you will contribute to the provision and development of medicine
strategies in order to ensure safe and cost effective use of medication.

Due to retirement, the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will have vacancy for a Medical Engineering
Technician to work within the Trust’s Clinical Engineering Asset Management team. This post will be predominantly
based at Friarage Hospital Northallerton and commencement date should be around the first week in September. The
successful applicant will be required to travel to James Cook University Hospital when necessary using their own
transport. The responsibilities will involve the routine maintenance, calibration and repair of medical devices used for
patient diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care including ventilators, anaesthetics, infusion devices, patient monitoring
and life support equipment used within a modern hospital environment.
Applicants should be qualified to H.N.C. /H.N.D. / Degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or have equivalent
experience in a medical electronics maintenance-related discipline and will be able to demonstrate relevant
experience in a medical electronics-related field.
Consideration may be given to candidates who have similar experience gained in a related field.
Access to good travel links is essential, as the post-holder will participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota.
You will need to be a team player, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to use your
own initiative when required.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated leader for the nuclear medicine technologists’ team which provides a
comprehensive nuclear medicine service to The South Tees NHS Foundation Trust. You should be an experienced

the delivery of Nuclear Medicine through a process review project is a key priority.
The James Cook University Hospital is one of Europe’s most modern hospitals. It provides a wide range of general
and specialist services including neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracic, vascular
surgery and cancer services. All its specialties are delivered from one site which is unique for a hospital of this size.
The Medical Physics Department comprises Clinical Measurement, Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy.
We perform a diverse range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures (2700 pa) that reflects the Trust’s specialist
services using a double-headed gamma camera and associated Hermes workstations. This includes nuclear
cardiology, paediatric investigations, neurology and tumour imaging for oncology applications. Non-imaging GFR
procedures (~300 pa) are also undertaken. A range of radionuclide therapy procedures are also carried out, including
approximately 50 thyroid cancer treatments. The use of radium-223 in prostate cancer is a recent development.
Diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals are manufactured by medical physics staff in a modern radiopharmacy facility. Staff
collaborate with Consultant Radiologists and other clinicians from a wide range of specialities in delivery and
development of the service.
The postholder will act as the Radio-pharmacy Production Manager and as the Radiation Protection Supervisor for the
service and should be on or able to apply to the appropriate professional register.
The Section is involved with a number of development projects directly related to improving patient diagnosis and
treatment. The post will involve working in clinical areas with direct patient contact on a regular basis.
Significant experience in delivering nuclear medicine services is essential along with the ability to manage change and
be adaptive to the requirements of the modern NHS.

The Friarage Hospital at Northallerton, situated approximately 23 miles from The James Cook site, merged with South
Tees Hospitals NHS Trust in April 2002. It provides a wide range of secondary services to its local population and is
well known for its friendly atmosphere.
A fully equipped district general hospital with 314 beds, it provides a 24-hour accident & emergency service and offers
inpatient and outpatient facilities in general surgery including colorectal, breast (including mobile screening) and
urology services, orthopaedics and trauma. Medical specialties include acute medicine, diabetes and endocrinology,
rheumatology, gastroenterology, respiratory and rehabilitation medicine.
This post it is envisaged will have sessions at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough in order to manage and
improve the pathway of patients requiring surgery for gall stone disease including development of an acute pathway.
The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the acute and elective general surgical workload for the local
population on 1 in 6 rota. The successful candidate should have undergone specialist training in upper gastrointestinal
surgery and laparoscopic surgery. The team of consultant surgeons based at the Friarage Hospital have equal access
to three SpR/ST3 as well as four trust grade doctors and four FY1 doctors.
Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCS (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist
Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

It’s an exciting opportunity for a new team to shape and model a new model of neurorehabilitation and major trauma
rehabilitation services in a major teaching hospital. The James Cook University Hospital is one of the largest Trusts in
England on a single site. It is a Major Trauma Centre and hosts The Golden Jubilee Regional Spinal Cord Injuries
Centre. There is an 18 bed dedicated neurorehabilitation ward, level 2, with a staff grade in support and a full nursing
and therapy complement along with neuropsychology input. Put together, these co-located services mean that James
Cook offers the possibility of a completely integrated rehabilitation service for neurorehabilitation, spinal cord injury
and MSKS rehabilitation, extending then into the Trauma Units and community services.
The rehabilitation services at James Cook are fully supported by acute and elective services all on the same site. The
8 neurosurgeons and 4 orthopaedic spinal surgeons form a fully integrated spinal and neurosurgical team which is
supported by comprehensive imaging and interventional radiology. There are 12 orthopaedic trauma surgeons,
together with specialised upper limb and hand surgical services. Ventilatory and weaning care is supported by
sessions from an intensivist and a 20 bedded ITU. A dedicated urologist supplies expertise in urological
management.
The 9 neurologists are supported by a 16 bedded inpatient ward. A fully equipped neurophysiological service is on
site. Pain services provide assistance with neuropathic pain management and also assist with intrathecal drug delivery
(baclofen and opiates). The pain service has one of the largest UK experiences with spinal cord stimulation. There is a
comprehensive spasticity service.
The Disablement Services Centre occupies its own building on site and supplies a sub-regional prosthetics
rehabilitation service, with a large amputation practice.
The main priority for both of these posts will be to deliver the highest clinical standards in the practice of rehabilitation
in neurological and trauma rehabilitation, for the adult (16+) population. You will be jointly responsible for initiating and
carrying through appropriate service developments and further improvements in these services working with a full
team of therapists included dedicated physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics and psychology input into neuroand trauma rehabilitation.
Within Neurorehabilitation, you will join an established MDT, providing inpatient and outpatient care, including a
spasticity/botulinum toxin therapy service and prosthetic limbs service. You will be named consultant for an inpatient
caseload, and provide an acute assessment service for early rehabilitation and jointly oversee the ‘post-acute’ wardbased neurorehabilitation service, and associated outpatient clinics.
For both posts, across the clinical areas you will liaise with the various specialist teams involved to ensure smooth
flow through patient care pathways, facilitate discharge and assist with the delivery of national targets. You will work
flexibly to accommodate and lead changing service needs. You will be encouraged to develop innovative approaches
to deliver rehabilitation services and provide guidance in relation to the implementation of relevant national policy and
clinical guidelines. You will be encouraged to develop specialist interest compatible with service needs.

The Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology wishes to appoint a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a special
interest in Urological and Lung Cancer following the relocation of an existing consultant. The successful applicant and
will bring the current consultant workforce to nineteen, including 13 clinical oncologists and 6 medical oncologists with
a further new post planned for next year.
This will complete a £35M oncology expansion plan for the population of Teesside, South Durham and North
Yorkshire. This has involved new building completed in April 2012, and also a significant expansion in consultant
numbers over the past 3 years. The department now boasts a state of the art radiotherapy facility and a new and
expanded chemotherapy unit, designed to meet the increasing demand for systemic treatment. There is also a new
out-patient department and office facilities. The department has used the Chemocare electronic prescribing system for
a number of years and has encouraged and established nurse-led and pharmacy-led chemotherapy clinics.
The department has a history of both developing and delivering innovative radiotherapy, having had a Lung SABR
programme in place for more than five years, and is now part of the CtE programme for developing Stereotactic
Treatment of Oligometastatic Disease. Recognition of this technical expertise by Elekta, the linac manufacturer, has
seen the department become their International reference site. Further collaborative ventures with Elekta have
included pilot work on VMAT and cone beam CT delivery and participation in the FFF implementation consortium.
This post is based in the Cancer Centre at the James Cook University Hospital, with peripheral clinics at North Tees
and Hartlepool Hospitals. The successful applicant will join well-established teams in both lung and urological cancer
across both trusts. A willingness to become involved in the treatment of testicular cancer would be welcomed. Other
area of site specialisation would be considered for the right candidate.
There is a NCRN trials unit located within the department and recruitment into clinical trials is increasing. The
department also has its own substantial local research fund and is keen to support personal research projects. We
hope to appoint an individual with the drive to expand our research portfolio and establish links with local universities.

rehabilitation service. You will provide a clear leadership role within the Trauma Network to co-ordinate care with the
Trauma Units and with Community staff in order to deliver the best rehabilitation pathway for musculoskeletal injuries
to the ultimate goal of return to occupation/training, recreation and leisure, and social and family life. This will involve
development of pathways for repatriation of Major Trauma patients to Trauma Units and a seamless progression of
rehabilitation goals. You will help develop the rehabilitation prescription, pathways and communication with
rehabilitation services in the community to include patients with serious trauma (ISS 9 – 15).

This is a new post providing an exciting opportunity to join the Head and Neck team, currently comprising of two
consultants. The successful candidate will link into a dynamic and enthusiastic multi-professional team based at
James Cook which provides comprehensive ENT services to the population of Teesside and North Yorkshire. The
department which has been attracting a sustained increase in referrals offers the full range of resective treatment
including robotic and oral laser surgery.
The Head and Neck service at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust is the local centre for Head and Neck Cancer Surgery
across the Tees Valley and North Yorkshire region. It is supported by a recently extended “state of the art” Oncology
centre providing IMRT. Surgical colleagues in maxillo-facial surgery, restorative dentistry, plastic surgery,
neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery provide an integrated service. South Tees hosts both a UAT and skull base
MDT, and is well supported by a comprehensive multi-professional head and neck team. The MDT video-links to
County Durham and Darlington NHSFT and all major surgery is delivered on the James Cook site.
The department has an established Otorhinolaryngology service with other comprehensive subspecialised
constituents, including Children’s ENT, Rhinology and endoscopic sinus surgery with balloon sinoplasty, and Otology
and skull-base with a full implant service, including cochlear and middle ear implants. Other specialist services in the
department include adult voice, joint paediatric tracheostomy, voice and swallow, and a comprehensive tertiary head
& neck dystonia service, offering botulinum toxin treatment.
The ENT department is centrally based within a modern purpose build facility in the James Cook University Hospital,
with a peripheral service network in the region. Recently rated as one of the best in the country for patient safety the
Trust is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in England. Working in the North East offers an excellent quality of life.

tenth year running.

Applications are invited for the position of post CCT Clinical/Research Fellow in Pain Medicine and Neuromodulation
for a fixed term of twelve months. This involves working between the James Cook University Hospital and the Friarage
Hospital for the Pain Management service as part of the directorate of neurosciences.
The Pain Management Service offers a full range of chronic pain services, Most interventional pain procedures are
done except cranial treatments. Other pain services include an outpatient pain management programme, drug
management, physiotherapy, psychology and TENS.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible and should have full registration with the
General Medical Council, evidence of CCT and preferably have completed Advanced Pain Training in Pain
Management.
The Neuromodulation team consists of 2 pain consultants and 1 consultant neurosurgeon, 1 clinical psychologist
supported by a team of nurse specialists in Pain Management, including 2 full time neuromodulation nurse specialists
as well as physiotherapy. 2 Full time research nurses collaborate with the clinical team to conduct studies with a
specific focus on neuromodulation. Currently about 90 patients per year receive a trial of spinal cord stimulation. About
25 new intrathecal drug delivery pumps are implanted per year.
The post holder may have the opportunity to provide unsupervised anaesthetic sessions during evenings and
weekends. Additional hours are available in the anaesthetic department on negotiation and with the agreement of the
applicant.
Research experience is desirable but not essential. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in the ongoing
research studies, develop their own ideas and explore a postgraduate academic qualification. Pay band will be on the
Specialty Registrar scale according to experience. The Trust is situated in the North East of England, close to the
North Yorkshire Moors.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the Tees Valley, comprising two acute sites; James Cook
University Hospital, Middlesbrough, Friarage Hospital, Northallerton and seven community hospitals. South Tees
offers several major tertiary services, including cardiothoracics and vascular surgery, neurosciences, renal dialysis, a
large radiotherapy centre and is a Major Trauma Centre. The Trust is a teaching centre for under and post graduate
medical education and has a Radiology registrar training programme.
The Division is nationally acknowledged as one of the top performing Imaging and Interventional services. Complex
vascular stenting procedures have been performed for 14 years. The NVD data base confirms excellent mortality
outcomes for endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysms. The Division has its own 6 bedded Day Unit with a
supporting team of skilled nurses and radiographers to support patient intervention and diagnostic procedures.
The combined departments provide a full range of digital imaging facilities including 2 x 1.5T MRI and 3 x multi-slice
CT scanners and a fully equipped Endovascular room to theatre standards. There are 2 x 64 slice scanners and we
are currently procuring a replacement 128 slice system which will be operational in 2014. Further 64 slice CT and 1.5T
MRI machines occupy a geographically separate Neuro-imaging department with a research orientated 3T MRI
machine also available for NHS cases. There is Trust-wide second generation PACS with voice recognition reporting.
Consultant Radiologists work as a strong team both within the Division and with other clinical colleagues. Weekly
MDTs and clinical meetings are held across all specialities to promote best practice and patient outcomes.

the Radiology service

sickness cover for colleagues. The department operates extended and seven day working; sessions can be worked
