Informational Text Feature Project Common Core Standards RI 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5 & 8.5 Created by, Nichole Barnett © 2012 http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Nichole-Barnett Informational Text Feature Project How to Use: With the new Common Core Standards, there is more of a focus on Informational Text. Therefore, it is critical that we as educators are giving our students the tools we need in order to be successful readers of informational text. This project allows students the opportunity to become more familiar with the key essential text features in informational books. After teaching each text feature explicitly, use this project as an end of the unit assessment. This Project Contains: o A student direction sheet o A Project Rubric o An Informational Text Feature Chart o A Student Self-‐reflection Sheet Fun Info: Students have the flexibility to share their understanding in a variety of ways. Some ideas my student’s did this year are: creating IPhone Apps with each of the text features on it, posters, notecards, good bags filled with a variety of text feature examples, and one girl made a bouquet out of flowers with the visual on the front as the center and the back of the flower had the description. Your students will amaze you with the ideas they come up with!
