OUR SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FRIDAY 1st JULY 2016 Celebration Of Achievement Event The Kirkby collaborative is the family of 16 schools based in Kirkby. Each year, each school nominates a number of pupils to celebrate their achievements such as giving 100% effort in all areas of school life, being an outstanding role model etc. This year Kirkby High School hosted the event and we are very proud of the children that were nominated. Well done to: Ruby Frankland, Michael Smith, Joshua Fredrick, Lacy Curran, Patrick Lawler and Mia Willis Successful Sports Week Last week we had a really successfully sports week. We had many visitors during the three days providing activities that the children don’t usually have the chance to take part in. On Wednesday the children took part in Fencing which they all enjoyed very much. Thursday they had the opportunity to experience Yoga which went down very well with staff and children. On Friday we finished the week with our Rise and Shine dance led by some of our girls in Y4/5/6 and the whole school took part, judo sessions then KS2 Sports Day with the winning team being Belgium. Children’s University The Children’s University Programme has been running in Westvale now for 6 years. Children who attend our after school clubs have their hours registered and once they’ve reached 30 hours they are invited to Hope University and have the chance to wear a cap and gown and receive a special certificate. In our first year we only had 6 children that graduated. Each year it has grown and this year we were very proud to see 66 of our children graduating. Any one needing a university passport can buy one from Mrs Melvin for £1 Reception Safari Trip Even though the rain never stopped, Reception still managed to have a great day at the Safari Park . It started with a tour of the park, a workshop and the children had the chance to hold a snake plus a Giant African Land Snail. They loved the sea lion show then had their dinner in the Safari tent.
