Appropriate speech patterns and language skills are crucial to nurturing effective communications by preschoolers. In this
third class on preschool development, you’ll explore how to use a picture and storybooks to lay the foundation for good
reading and proper language use. This class comes complete with discussions on how to help children with special needs.

Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) is designed to help child care directors, infant/toddler care teachers and family child
care providers become sensitive to infants’ cues, connect with their family and culture, and develop responsive, relationshipbased care. This training takes an in-depth look at cognitive and social-emotional development, encouraging growth within
daily routines and tips on setting up appropriate environments for experienced infant and toddler professionals.
A 30 minute lunch break will be provided.

Participants will have an opportunity to choose and complete a hands-on project to add to their classroom environment. A
variety of activities including storyboards, table activities, flannel board, etc. will be available to choose from. Participants

What to Expect When You Are Expecting A Consultant

Location: Charleston Head Start Center, 697 Windsor Road, Charleston
Most of you know Andrea Bierman (Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist), Penny Krabel, (Quality Rating Specialist), and
Vanessa Vassar (Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant), but what can they do for you? The Child Care Resource &
Referral provides consultation in three domains; Infant Toddler, Quality, and Mental Health Support. Inviting a Consultant
into your center or home can sometimes be intimidating, uncomfortable, or just confusing as to what is going to happen. This
training will be wrapped around three individual mock situations that will highlight each consultant in her role working with
either children or providers. This will be a great opportunity to get to know your consultants better and understand how they
might help you in your program!

An Introduction to the Environmental Rating Scales (ERS)

This training is for family child care and center providers. After completion of this training, child care practitioners will have
knowledge of the ERS; be able to use tool(s) for self-assessment of their program and/or hire a consultant to use tool(s) for
assessment; be able to use ERS results to plan program improvements; and be aware of ERS linkages to the IL Department of
Human Services Quality Rating System, IL State Board of Education Preschool for All and national accreditation processes.

Special Care: Including Children with Special Needs in Child Care

An inclusive child care setting is one in which all children, those with and without disabilities have an opportunity to play and
learn together. Participants in this session will learn methods to include all children in their child care program. This training

Family Child Care: Record Keeping

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Training Policies & Procedures
Training Session Registration & Fees
 Registration for training sessions may be sent to CCR&R by mailing in the registration form that is included with the
training calendar, or by phoning the CCR&R office. If you are mailing the registration form each participant must fill
out a registration form. This form may be copied for additional staff members.
 Registration deadlines are one week before the session is held. Fees need to be paid by the registration deadline.
 Registrations are accepted on a first come first served basis. Registration confirmation is not mailed to participants.
If you would like to confirm that your registration has been received you may call the CCR&R office.
 Some training sessions have limited enrollment. If a session is full when we receive your registration you will be
contacted and placed on a waiting list.
 Pre-registration is very important. If you come to a training that you have not registered for you will only be admitted
if there is space available. A certificate would be mailed to you following the session.
 Registration fees are non-refundable. If a session is cancelled by CCR&R your fees will be applied to another session.
 Registration fees will not be applied to another session if the training is held and you do not attend and did not
cancel with CCR&R before the training was held.
 Training fees are not collected at the training sessions. Payment should be received by CCR&R one week prior to the
event.

Training Cancellation/No Show Policies
 Participant Cancellation: Please call CCR&R if you find you are unable to attend a training for which you have
registered. We have a waiting list for many workshops, so your notification may allow someone else to
participate. Individuals who do not attend and do not cancel 48 hours prior to the session will not be able to apply
their fee to another training session.
 CCR&R cancellation: CCR&R reserves the right to cancel a training session due to low enrollment, trainer illness, or
weather emergencies. CCR&R will contact you as soon as possible to notify you of the cancellation. Fees will be
applied to another training session. If a session is rescheduled we will notify you of the new date. If you cannot
attend the rescheduled date you may apply your fee to another training session.
 If there is threatening weather and CCR&R decides to cancel a training session every effort will be made to contact
participants. If you have not heard from CCR&R please contact the CCR&R office to verify that the session is being
held. Always use your best judgment when deciding if it is safe to travel to a training session.
Training Participation Policies
 Arrival time: Participants should arrive a few minutes before the starting time of the session.
 Late Arrivals: A fifteen (15) minute grace period will be given at all training sessions. This grace period begins at
the advertised start time. Participants will not be allowed in the training after the 15 minute grace period.
 Early Departures: To receive a training certificate, participants must stay until the trainer is finished.
 Professional and courteous behavior is expected at all training sessions. Cell phones should be placed on vibrate or
mute.
 Adult learners only, children may not attend CCR&R training sessions unless the event specifies children may attend.
Training Certificates/Training Transcripts
 Training certificates will be issued at the completion of the training session. To receive a training certificate,
participants must stay until the trainer is finished.
 Replacement certificates will be issued at the request of an individual participant. Certificates are only to be released
to the individual who participated at the training. There is a $3.00 fee to issue a new training certificate.
 Training transcripts may be issued at the request of an individual participant. To ensure confidentiality, transcripts
are to be released to the individual. There is a $5.00 fee for a training transcript.
