Question of the Week
Adult: “How will I move inward this week to discover Jesus within
me? How will I move outward to engage more enthusiastically
with my sister and brother believers? Toward whom is Jesus
moving me to be a messenger of freedom?”
Child: “How cool would it be to have a friend who could
perform miracles? How would it feel? What would you do? We
talk a lot about how much Jesus loves us but have you ever
thought of Jesus as your friend? Do your parents and friends
always give you what you ask for?”

Catechetical Moment
The second form of sin is venial. Venial sin lessons our willingness
to follow God’s moral law and can lead us to commit mortal
sins. Unlike mortal sin, it does not break the covenant with God;
but should be confessed.

Vocation View
”Jesus calls us forth from our graves of apathy and passivity.
How will your new life make a difference? Consider ministry
in the Church (John 11:1-45) If you think God is calling you to
priesthood or to consecrated life, visit our website at
www.dcdiocese.org/vocations.
Stewardship Thought for the Week
“When Jesus heard about the illness of His friend, Lazarus, He
responded, “This illness is not to end in death; rather it is for
God’s glory, that through it the Son of God may be glorified.”
Every aspect of our lives-our gifts as well as our sufferings-can,
if surrendered to Christ, lead to blessing for ourselves and
others.”
Rite of Scrutiny
This is the prayer for those who have not been baptized (the
Elect). In the intercessions of this prayer we name the sin that
permeates every level of human life– personal, social and
world, and pray “Lord, have mercy” - “Kyrie Eleison”. Invoking
Christ’s power to heal and to save is touching and life-giving for
us all. During a time of silent prayer, the Presider lays his hands
on each of the Elect, praying that God will deliver them from
every evil. This will be followed by the dismissal rite, when the
Elect will spend about a half an hour reflecting on the
Scriptures they have just heard. In order to participate in a more
personal way, we are each encouraged to discern in our own
lives what needs to be freed from sin’s bondage, and ask for
God’s healing. Your prayers and support are important for our
sisters and brothers who have been journeying for several
months toward the sacraments of Christian initiation—Baptism,
Confirmation, and Eucharist. Please continue to hold in your
Lenten prayers the Elect and our candidates who count on you
for support in making their faith journey. We celebrate the
Third Scrutiny will be on Sunday, April 2nd at 10:00am at the
worship site at St. Rose and 12:30 pm (Spanish) at the worship
site at St. Rose.
Thank You!
The Prince of Peace Altar Society would like to Thank all

huge help for the Funeral Committee. THANK YOU!

J.A.M. Session with your DRE
Youth Group Spotlight
April 2nd, 2017
Fifth Sunday of Lent
7:00 pm - Auditorium at St. Rose
Sunday Gospel: John 11:1, 3-5, 17-29
Today’s Gospel underlines Christ’s humanity; his love for
Lazarus and his sisters, and his genuine sadness at the
death of his friend. This astonishing episode foreshadows
Christ’s own death, and reminds us of the effects of
baptism when we die to sin with Christ in the water, and
rise to new life as children of God.
Today, Jesus receives an urgent message from some very
good friends who desperately need his help. Rather
surprisingly he does not hurry to their aid and arrives when
it seems too late to do anything. God is the giver of life
and for him, nothing is impossible.
Side note to parents from your DRE!!!
How do you think Martha and Mary felt when their brother
Lazarus died? Have you known anyone that has died, and
did you feel sad? Do you think the people were
frightened by what they saw? If you had been standing in
the crowd watching all of this happen, do you think you
would believe in Jesus more after you had seen Lazarus
come back to life? The spirit of God raised Lazarus from
the dead. He lives within each one of us, and through his
power, we are raised up after death to join God in
everlasting glory.
Lord, Help us to be like Martha,
to see clearly that you are the
son of God and the life of the world.
Make our belief and your life in us,
grow a little stronger each day of our lives. Amen

Fifth Week of Lent
We encounter Dita in Ethiopia, and see how her newfound entrepreneurial skills are providing three meals a
day for her children-even during a devastating
drought. What skills have you discovered this Lent that
can be put to good use in building God’s kingdom?

Wall O’ Money Fundraiser
The Youth Group needs your help raising funds for their
summer mission trips. Prayer and Action is a mission trip
and retreat experience that puts our Catholic Faith into
Action by painting houses, cleaning up disheveled
sections of town, and performing other meaningful tasks
for the poor, disabled, and elderly. Our summer trip will
be going to Denver. Both mission trips will include daily
Mass, prayer and talks about our Catholic faith.
In the narthex at both worship sites, you will find
envelopes decorated with dollar amounts on the
outside. We ask that you prayerfully consider choosing
an envelope of the dollar amount that you are able to
give. Please return the envelope in the collection basket
next Sunday or drop it by the parish office by April 23.
Thank you in advance for supporting our youth in the
summer mission trips!
