We hope that our pupils are making every effort and that their exams are proceeding well. 2) TERM 4 EXAMS PLEASE NOTE! All pupils are required to be at school at the regular time - 07h55 - even if they are not writing an exam. A medical certificate from either the clinic or the doctor is applicable for missing any exam. Grade 9 and Matric pupils, however, must produce a doctor’s certificate for exams missed as these are the two exit phases and their marks are externally moderated by the Education Department. 3) 4) TERM 4 CALENDAR Tuesday, 1 December - Exams end Wednesday, 2 December - Music Evening Friday, 4 December - Athletics camp (4 – 6 December) Wednesday, 9 December - Schools close TEXTBOOK DROP-OFF A textbook drop-off slot has been made for learners to return all their textbooks. Once the learner has written their exams, they are responsible for dropping off their own books, thereby ensuring that books are not mislaid or lost. It is very important that textbooks are not handed to any teachers. It is the learner’s responsibility to deliver their own textbooks at the Textbook Drop-off slot. The Textbook Slot is in the wall of the hall in the Grade 8 squad. If a learner has lost a textbook, please contact Sylvia Maggs (021 976 1147 / 083 230 5190) to find out replacement costs. The payment for the lost textbook must be made at the Payments Office. Learners WILL NOT be issued with new textbooks in 2016 unless ALL textbooks issued in 2015 have been returned or replacement costs paid. 5) REMEMBRANCE DAY 6) LIBRARIAN’S CHOICE THE PARIS WIFE by Paula McLain Chicago, 1920: Hadley Richardson is a shy twenty-eight –yearold who has all but given up on love and happiness when she meets Ernest Hemingway and is captivated by his energy, intensity and burning ambition. After a whirlwind courtship and wedding, the pair set sail for France. But glamorous Jazz Age Paris, full of artists and writers, fuelled by alcohol and gossip, is no place for family life and fidelity. Ernest and Hadley’s marriage begins to founder, and the birth of a beloved son only drives them further apart. Then, at last, Ernest’s ferocious literary endeavours bring him recognition – not least from a woman intent on making him her own ….. 7) PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Wishing all our Fairmont families a sunny weekend.
