PICTURE A HOUSE with Sylvia Naylor All levels In this fun one day class you will use the motif of a stylised house to make a picture about 12” square using stitching and collage. In order to free the creative spirit, the class will begin by creating some designs of houses using torn papers. [This is very liberating] Sylvia’s samples will show how she has abstracted a simple house both in paper and fabric and thread. Stitching lines will be used both to hold down the fabrics and to accentuate. These may be done in regular stitching or free motion. Topics to be covered include use of colour and design. Course requirements: a spirit of adventure, a desire to step into the unknown. Materials list. Fee: $75 (One, 6 hr. session) Date: Friday, March 3 Time: 10 am – 4 pm Inspired by Landscape with Sylvia Naylor The natural landscape is a wonderful design source. Using a mixture of fused applique and free motion machine embroidery you will create your own small landscape. The class will begin by looking at landscape pictures to see how they can be simplified and developed through sketch and /or paper collage. Attention will be paid to design elements such as colour, texture, line and space. Using commercial cottons you will develop your picture. After the fused fabric edges have been stitched you will learn how to make simple trees, grasses, leaves and flowers in free motion embroidery. Options for finishing your work of art will be discussed. Sylvia is an encouraging instructor who wants you to develop your creativity in a relaxed atmosphere.
