2013
Welcome.
RED Mountain isn't simply a ski resort or a spot on a map. RED is a
world unto itself with its own rules, its own charm and its own
character.
Where else can you find plentiful powder on exciting slopes and
have locals actually show you their secret stashes?
Where else can you immerse yourself in western Canada's oldest ski
traditions while riding our lifts and relaxing in luxury, slope-side
accommodations?
Where else can you dine on wild, local salmon expertly prepared for
the same price you'd pay for a lukewarm burger at most megaresorts?
Where else can you escape into 1,685 acres of world-class terrain
and then roll straight onto the lift without a day wrecking traffic
jam?
RED Mountain means making the most of your vacation time by
providing superior value on all fronts: snow, terrain, atmosphere,
lodging, climate, culture and character.
Discover how we offer the perfect antidote to overcrowded, overpriced, "modern" ski experiences and why our world is just a little
bit…better than the real one.
“You are a stranger here but once.”
Don’t take our word for it.
With accolades from The New York Times, Forbes Traveler,
Ski, National Geographic Adventure, and Bike, you don't have
to take us at our word on this: RED Mountain offers an unmatched
outdoor playground and world class four-season activities.
Find out for yourself why ski and snowboard pros, travel editors and
elite ski bums all hold RED in such high esteem.
Voted as Canada’s #1 Outdoor Town by Explore Magazine,
our host community of Rossland, BC, has also been recognized for
its rugged outdoor adventure, small-town warmth and hospitality.
If that’s not enough, our modern, on-hill accommodations boast a
tripadvisor.com review score of 4.5 out 5 stars for the 2011-12
season, you don’t have to worry about crashing in some musty
chalet that smells like Grandpa’s old wedding suit.
The Toronto Sun just ranked RED one of the Top 10 Ski
Resorts in the World.
SBC Skier magazine named us a Top 5 Freeride Spot in
their 2011/12 Resort Guide.
Ski Canada dubbed our “side-country” terrain the Best New
Playground: “[RED] expands with more than 120 hectares of
off-piste terrain on freshly gladed Grey Mountain, just a 20minute hike, skip and skin away from the access gate.”
Ski Canada named Rossland Best Ski Bum Town this year.
“Home of the original ski bum, Olaus Jeldness, Rossland is
celebrating more than 113 years of skiing—and living to ski.”
Ski Canada
Ski Canada also recognized our own favourite update with
Best New Day Lodge honours: “[The] long-awaited reno to
the original base lodge is finally complete—and everyone so far
is giving RED a green light.”
“We have been coming to Red Mountain for over 20 years. We
met friendly locals that kept inviting us back to stay, then we
bought our own house, and now we’ve upgraded to a magnificent condo at the base of the lifts.
My husband and I travel here almost every year from the other
side of the planet, it’s THAT good! Vast, varied and uncrowded
ski terrain, the picturesque town of Rossland, and the incredible
friendly locals, all make this place something so special that
words fail me. But if I have to find some, this place can be
summed up by the wonderful words I heard when I walked into
a local store at the beginning of this year’s holiday, “Hello Linda,
welcome home”. How beautiful is that?”
Linda, Sydney, Australia
Mountain Mathematics.
RED Mountain truly offers something for everyone. Our unrivaled
terrain variety means we can keep every member of your group
happy. From the most hardcore powder-hound to the mellow
cruiser who takes, um, plenty of hot chocolate breaks, RED will
delight every member’s every sense.

Terrain Breakdown
Our amazing topography means complete, 360-degree access to
each mountain peak, enabling considerably more skiable acres per
lift. (Think of it as “3-D Skiing”...) And, with more than 1,685
skiable acres and 2,919 feet of vertical, there’s a lot to explore
at RED. Your legs will give out long before your imagination, so let
your right brain imagine the sound of cold powder rushing under
your board or skis while your left brain runs our numbers.

don’t like to brag but they’re actually
world-class... Shhhhh!)
Legendary & Improved.
RED offers a pure and inspiring mountain experience that is, above
all, a true vacation escape from the trappings of a hectic life. The
area was founded by Scandinavian miners during the Gold Rush and
is western Canada’s oldest ski resort. With a keen sense of history
and an appreciation for the preservation of the natural environment, we offer an experience that is far from the sanitized getaway
many skiers now unfortunately expect from many of our larger
competitors:
The RED Mountain chairlift was the first in western Canada and
began operating on December 16, 1947. The original base lodge
was also built in 1947.
RED was home to the first Canadian downhill ski championship
in 1897. The first World Cup race was hosted here in 1968 and
7000 fans cheered Rosslander Nancy Greene as she won the
GS.
Thanks to our challenging terrain and supportive community,
RED Mountain has produced more Olympic athletes than any
other ski club in North America!
Today it’s on the leading edge of the Canadian Freesking Scene
and host of The North Face Canadian Open Freeskiing Championship!
Legendary & Improved.
A New Shade of RED
Hanging from the Rafters
Improvements to RED are constant but careful. We know we’re
sitting on something special, so keeping this unique character and
heritage intact while updating the most important amenities has
been our approach since Day One. From lifts to lodging to RED’s
carefully remodeled day lodge, we are proud of our past -- and even
prouder of our future:
Rafters is a world class après spot and now boasts updates that will
continue that legacy for another 50 years. A 360-degree bar is the
highlight of the update and means faster drinks for everyone and
amazing people watching. Try one of our signature pizzas, nachos,
or the "Wannabe" - a veggie burger with cheese and bacon. Rafters
is an ideal spot for a relaxing lunch with an adult beverage. Free
shuttle to Rossland (RMRL guests only) and live music. Boom!
The Soul of the Base
The sustainable, innovative growth of RED is perhaps best represented by the extensive remodel of the day lodge. This update
includes the new, expanded 4,400 sq. ft. sun deck for live music,
BBQ burgers, and the legendary Kokanee SpringFest. This lodge
holds fond memories for locals and visitors alike -- from first hot
chocolate to first tequila shot -- so we’re proud to have preserved
the legendary wood lockers and existing 100 year-old timbers.
Piste Off!
Our new Piste Off! Boutique has everything you need -- or forgot. A
youthful vibe featuring brands like The North Face, Burton, Quiksilver, Electric, RVCA, Orage, Von Zipper, Smith Optics and many more
defines this shopping experience.

What’s New at RED
Shreds on Ice
Our popular skating rink is located slopeside next to Slalom Creek in
a prime “seen and be seen” location and is open until 9pm. Whether
you're working on your Toeless Lutz or your cross-checks, you can
now enjoy some real Canadian fun under our lights. “Two minutes
for looking so good!”
Real Mountain Options: Camps, Clinics & More
In our effort to provide the ultimate experience for all of our guests,
RED has a number of programs geared toward our “advanced intermediate to hardcore” skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers. You
can start by leaving your gear at home and being fitted for one of
our High Performance Rental packages, optimized for the steeps
and bottomless powder of the Kootenays. If you’re beyond a typical
lesson, we offer the broadest array of camps and clinics in Canada,
including: Intro to Touring; Chix on Snow; Men’s Vert Club; Custom
Backcountry Guiding Adventures and more. If you can see it, we can
help you shred it in style.
Off Season? It’s On!
RED Mountain Resort might be famous for what we do with winter,
but we’re here all year. (So are our mountains...). With unbeatable
off-season rates and packages, RED is your all-in-one destination
resort, from weddings to conferences to meetings that devolve into
mud-spattered mountain biking missions. “Told you not to bring
your laptop down that single-track, dude.”
Welcome to Rossland.
Rossland, BC, the splendid town located five minutes from RED’s
base, isn’t one of those “built in a hurry” ski towns. Far from it.
Rossland is a storied mining town built during the Gold Rush of the
1890’s.
As Rossland boomed with the Gold Rush, it became one of western
Canada's largest cities for a time, a fact evident in the historic buildings now occupied by thriving local businesses.
The town has two schools, a library, is considered "Canada's Mountain Bike Capital”, and continues to be the epicentre of cultural
activities in the area such as the Rossland Mountain Film Festival
and the Winter Carnival.
The superlative lifestyle here attracts artists, gourmet restauranteurs and other top talent, allowing the community a broad cultural
base by which it can support itself.
Rossland has what every group wants, a wide array of quality dining
and shopping options. Rossland is home to boutique shops and
spas, a full service, high-end grocery store, quality wine and liquor
merchants, a full service bank, and wonderful bookstores and cafes
for those non skiing days. Use our free shuttle to get to town!
Please visit rossland.com for more info on our host community.
"What first drew me to RED Mountain was the exciting skiing
terrain, but I soon made a connection with the wonderful town
of Rossland. The people are so warm and welcoming. As soon as
I begin the drive in, I feel my heart rate drop steadily. I really
have developed a vision problem -- I simply can't see going
anywhere else!" Robert, Encinitas, California
Located at an elevation of 1023 metres (3410 feet), Rossland lies high in the Monashee Mountains in the West Kootenay region of
British Columbia, Canada. Within driving distance are Spokane International Airport (GEG), Kelowna International Airport (YLW),
and the smaller regional airports of Castlegar (YCG) and Trail (YZZ).
