Our Amazing Volunteers
Dear Friends,
I just found out that Rev. Martin Luther King !Jr. !when
he gave his " I Have a Dream" speech did not have the
words about his dream in his prepared text. !It just
came to him spontaneously through the loving spirit
of God.!
That's what a dream is. It's off script.!
As things grow more difficult in our country, we are
forced to think off script. Isn't it the time to live
through our hopes and our dreams more than ever?!
The Grace Center is a dream come true. !The only
way we are going to deal with homelessness,
addiction, poverty, injustice, suffering, broken
healthcare, and all our other big problems is to "hold
hands" and be in relationship with one another.!
Help continues to come from other members of our
island family.!Thank you brothers and sisters in the
Police Department, the hospital, the EMS, the
churches, the Temple, City Hall, all the other human
services agencies, and a special thanks to our
neighbors!
Thank you for your patient compassion and generosity
as we try to heal our struggling family.!We have a lot of
work to do together. !"Hands to work and hearts to God."
Amen!
The Rev. Tom Bentley, Executive Director
Thank you, Tom, and all who work for and support the
Grace Center.

Our Mission

We opened in December of 2011 in the heart of the city to help those most
in need. Now we have a safe day space not just for people who are
homeless or with addictions, but for anyone challenged by poverty, mental
illness, disability, or whatever crisis needs a helping hand.
We are still working to find a permanent home. It is a challenge to find a
location for a program with our growing size and mission. On some days
we serve over 70 individuals. We need our own space to expand our
educational and social services, near the center of Gloucester, because that
is the best location to meet the needs of our guests.
We would love to be open more days per week. This past June we
expanded to four days, and when we secure an appropriate site, we plan to
be open Monday through Friday every week. Our progress will need to
come through the support of the entire community. We will keep you
informed as details become available. Thank you in advance for your
generosity and compassion.

“The Grace of God is a very great, strong, mighty and active thing. It does not lie asleep
in the soul. Grace hears, leads, drives, draws, changes, works in all humanity. and lets
itself be distinctly felt and experienced, It is hidden, but its works are evident.”
