JOB DESCRIPTION Senior Teaching Associate in Chinese Vacancy Ref: A1614 Job Title: Senior Teaching Associate, Chinese Present Grade: 7P Department/College: Languages and Cultures (DeLC) Directly responsible to: Head of Department (DeLC) and Confucius Institute Director Supervisory responsibility for: Academic coordination of Confucius Institute Teaching Associates and tutors Other contacts Internal: Colleagues and students in the Department, the Confucius Institute and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, together with colleagues in other Faculties, providers of student support services, the library, ISS and central administration. External: Confucius Institutes and CI Headquarters, schools, professional associations, partner institutions, external examiners. The term of this post is five years renewable. Major Duties: 1. To contribute to the design and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of Chinese language and culture in the Department/Confucius Institute at all levels, through workshops, lectures, seminars and tutorials including the setting and marking of written and oral assessment. The teaching load will be a minimum of 8 hours per week; the maximum will be 280 hours/year. 2. To contribute to the development of new undergraduate language programmes in terms of design, content, structure, progression, modes of delivery and methods of evaluation 3. To co-ordinate the teaching by Confucius Institute teachers who contribute to Chinese modules offered by the University, providing support, feedback and training to them as appropriate; 4. To convene language courses and year groups at any level (first to final year; beginners, intermediate or advanced); 5. To communicate effectively with students and colleagues, using face-to-face, telephone, written and electronic communication (including email, Moodle) modes as appropriate; 6. To supervise dissertations where appropriate; 7. To take on a major administrative role, such as the preparation, coordination and evaluation of Study Abroad for Chinese; 8. To collaborate with Lancaster’s Confucius Institute in order to promote Chinese Studies 9. To contribute to the Department’s academic and pastoral care of its students and to the enhancement of their learning, personal development and achievement; 10. To participate in the Department’s various outreach activities including Open Days, school visits, etc; 11. To undertake supplementary academic and administrative duties as required by Head of Department and/or the Director of Lancaster University’s Confucius Institute.
