Have a say, make a difference. www.humber.nhs.uk/members To help prevent Catheter encrustation - the chalky material blocking your catheter: increase your fluid intake to at least 2 litres of fluid per day, plus; drink at least 600mls of citrate drink per day. Ideally 200mls, three times a day. To make up the drink mix together: 100mls of freshly squeezed lemon or lime or concentrated lemon juice (not cordial) 200mls / 7.5 fl oz approx. of preferred cordial to taste Top up to 1 litre with water Precaution – may cause tooth enamel erosion therefore: to help avoid prolonged contact with your teeth, you may want to drink the citrate drink through a straw so the fluid goes to the back of your mout; chew sugar free chewing gum to increase saliva; brush your teeth one hour after drinking the lemon drink; if you are concerned consult your dentist.
