We are just over a month away from the end of the year, and the weather has been stellar this spring. As
we reach this last month of school, the push is on towards year end exams and activities. May was another great month at Delia School. Our grade 12 students presented their portfolios on May 5 and all of them
did an outstanding job. The ECS class and the grade 1-4 classes had their swimming lessons this month
and they had a great time. A huge thanks to the Delia Elks and Royal Purple for their generous sponsorship of these programs. ECS also hosted their annual Spring Tea. The grade 9 class travelled to Calgary
on June 14 for the Party Program, which is a program that focuses on making smart choices when confronted with challenging situations. Our Girls Club and after school yoga programs have also continued
this month and are wrapping up for the year.
As we head into June, graduation is up for both ends of the spectrum. Kindergarten graduation is coming
up on June 4 and the next night we will celebrate the graduation of our grade 12 students. A big congratulations to Mickey, Emma, Katie, William and Jordan on their graduation this year. We know they have
great futures ahead of them. We have some great field trips planned this month for students. On June 9,
the grade 7/8 class is heading to Calgary to go to the Glenbow Museum for Social Studies and the Telus
Spark Centre for a Science exploration. On June 19, the K-2 group is heading out to some local farms and
attractions. On June 23, the grades 3-6 classes are heading to Calaway Park for their year end trip, and
finally on June 25 grades 1-6 are going to Drumheller for their year end swim day.
Provincial exams will be upon us shortly. The grade 6 students will write their PAT’s from June 16-22, and
the grade 9 class will write their PAT’s from June 23-26. We also have students writing diplomas in Social
Studies (June 15 and 18), Chemistry (June 23), Physics (June 25) and Science (June 26). For the rest of
the high school classes, our exam schedule will be from June 22-25 and it is attached to the newsletter. It
will also be posted on our webpage and Facebook page. Best wishes to all students. Study hard, we know
you will do great.
Finally, I would like to wish Mrs. Doktorchik all the best in her retirement and invite you to join us on June
24 at 2 PM to honour her along with our volunteers. We are also excited to announce that we have hired
Ms. Lindsay Gould as her replacement. Ms. Gould comes to us from Horizon School Division and will be
an excellent addition to our staff.
Have a great month and please feel free to stop by anytime if you have questions for us.
Sincerely,
Darryl Hern

Class News
I don't know how it's possible but Kindergarten is almost done for the year!! Thank you to all of the
volunteers that have helped to make our year go so smoothly.
We just finished a week of swimming at the Drumheller Aquaplex - thank you to the Delia Elks and
Royal Purple for supporting our school and funding the busing costs for this. A huge thank you to the
parents for all of the delicious desserts made for the Spring Tea. Another big thank you to everyone
who attended and supported the Delia Kindergarten class. We had lots of people come in and out
throughout the day and it was wonderful to see lots familiar and new faces!
The Morrin PenPals came to visit us in May and the kids were excited to finally meet after a year of
writing back and forth. It was awesome to see how well they were matched up this year.
On Wednesday, June 10th we will be celebrating 100 days of Kindergarten! The kids are excited to
have a day full of activities. The next day they will celebrate Kindergarten Graduation!! On Thursday,
June 11th at 1:30 the Kindergarten class will be walking the stage to collect their Kindergarten diplomas. Thank you to the kids and families for making it such a great year! On June 17th the ECS class
will return for practice Grade 1 day with Mrs.Johnson. It is also Disney Theme day on the 17th.
The ECS will be returning again on Friday, June 19th for K, 1, 2 field trip. We will be visiting a couple
farms, stop to tour a Vet Clinic and end the day with some swimming at the Hanna Outdoor Pool.
Let's hope for sunny weather that day!
Grade 1 and 2
May has been a very busy month for these little people. With Mrs. J back in class they headed out
for a fieldtrip to the Cloverleaf Hutterite Colony to visit the greenhouse and check out all the plants
they were growing out there. A bonus was that Mrs. Carrie Trout invited them into their class for
some fun activites.
The class participated in swimming lessons in Drumheller
for 6 days, and absolutely loved it ;) When the students
returned back to class after the long weekend they were
greeted with some very noisy feathery friends, their chicks
had started hatching. By May 22 they had 2 brooder boxes
on the go with about 20 chicks and 4 ducklings. Mrs. Alderdice really liked seeing the ducks coming down the
hallway to visit her. By Wednesday, all the feathered
friends had gone to their new homes. The class is really
looking forward to going to the Rosin’s for their yearend
fieldtrip to see how big the chicks and ducks have gotten.
On Thursday the class along with the rest of the elementary enjoyed the cooler weather to assist the
Delia
Communities in Bloom Committee with planting and beautifying the village. The students would like
to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Roxie Reed and the rest of the
committee for the awesome cold treat they had when they
finished. :)
Grade 3 and 4
May sped by and June is looking like it's going to be a rocket, too! The grade 3 and 4 class have
been busy finishing up our last units, and have been reviewing for our finals already. They have
been playing Jeopardy, Snakes and Ladders, and Headbands to review our Science, Health, Math,
and Social Units. With prizes! In LA they are working on a novel study, Old Yeller, and are illustrating a graphic novel of it. Their final virtual field trip is to Tunisia in Northern Africa. In Science as part
of their Lifecycles Unit they are gathering a zoo of invertebrates, creating a healthy habitat for them,
and watching them grow. Their Painted Lady butterflies are hatching now and next week they will be
holding their annual Free the Butterflies Ceremony (with cupcakes!). They are looking forward to all
their end-of-the-month activities. Their Year-end Field trip is to Calaway Park on June 23. International Day Celebration is when they will celebrate the cultures of the four countries they have studied. They will eat food from India, Peru, Tunisia, and Ukraine, play games, listen to music, and play
sports games from those countries. Alien Science Day is when they will create and experiment with
weird and whacky things, dressed up as aliens. Mrs. Doktorchik said “I will miss all the fun we've
had in Grade 3 and 4, and the great students of Delia School. Have a great summer, everyone!”

Students’ Union
In May the Students Union hosted a special events day. They were asked to wear “anything but clothes” and we saw
some hilarious and creative outfits made out of duct tape, rubber gloves, garbage bags, and tea towels. Coming up in
June we have Disney day. Students are pumped to get out their favourite Disney costume and show it off for some
prizes. I hope to see lots of students dressed up!
Sports Update
The Bulldogs wrapped up a brief Badminton season with a few tournaments. In Hanna Adrian had lots of
tough competition in Sr boys singles. Jaylee and Erin got bronze in Junior girls doubles while Riley and
Emily A got silver in junior mixed doubles.
Rebecca, Kristin, Madison H, and Cole H all advanced to Zones in Canmore. There was a lot of close of
close matches against lots of very good competitors. The coach was Miss A and she had a blast coaching
the team. She will definitely do it again.
