Torch
The invasion of North Africa
Location


The majority of the fighting occurred in
the French Territories Algeria and
Morocco.
The allied British and American troops
were not in agreement on how to go
about the invasion.


The British were against amphibious assault,
the USA was for amphibious assault.
They assaulted the cities of Casa Blanca,
Oran, and Algers.
City of Algers was surrendered
immediately because French troops
wanted to be liberated.

Allied Advantages and
Disadvantages
 The
Allies didn’t think there would be too
much French resistance in Africa. The
French put up a good fight though.
 The strong US Navy was a key part in the
battle of Casa Blanca.
 The Allied Tanks weren't as good as the
Axis Tiger 1’s
 The British were able to break the Axis
code, this was critical in Allied success

 The
Allies won the Battle of North Africa
 The Allies were able to overwhelm the Axis
powers in North Africa.
 The US Navy and the British Code Breakers
were key parts of the Allied success.
 Operation Torch turned the tides of the
war in favor of the Allies and set the stage
for the invasion of Normandy and the
retaking of Europe.
