WALKING WITH PROTECTION (HANDOUT)
Protection of Space
l Datura – ancient trumpet flower (gypsum weed)
l San Pedro cactus – around the perimeter of a building – grows 8-9 feet tall. Blooms at night and functions
as a protection. Can keep in your work space.
l Single terminated crystals. Bury outside of the house corners with the tip facing down into the earth
(a pot would be ok). Do if you can right in the earth. To cleanse a crystal put it in salt water for three days or
with dripping H2O. These function as antennas – so you want to use white clean quartz. Ideally 2-3 inches in
length – the length is more important than the width.
l Bands of power around a house. The bands act as filters around the house. You visualize the bands and
walk the stones around the house. Source the black from your bands and then disconnect your bands from
the house when you are done with the band. If do with a house the bands must be maintained. Do at your
level and then extend up around the house. Do the framework up and down and then around. Black – earth,
red waters, gold sunlight, silver – wind, pure light – and then close all the spaces between the bands so that
nothing else can come in and out. Then sustain with your visualization. They degrade because there isn’t a
human core. (Use chumpi stones or stones from your mesa).
l First – Cleanse the house. To cleanse the
house you can use sage or ammonia if it is
a very toxic energy. Ammonia and salt
will drive out anything that is living in
it! Open a door or window for the
energy to exit.
l Masusa – Holy Scrolls
(Tora). Put by the door. You
can make your own – or in
the Americas they use corn
(ear of corn in the crib of the
Navajo). We are people of
the corn – in Europe they
are of the wheat – China the
rice. A little bit of corn silk
tied with red string over a
doorway or to the side of
the door. Or you can put it
on the sill – you say prayers
over it “to hold and protect.”

Carnation clearing:
13 red carnations / 13 white carnations
Open sacred space with client.
Note that it is important that the energy that is being removed has a place to go, such as through a window at
the highest room of the building.
Begin with plan, a map if needed, for unwinding the property.
Use red carnations dipped in solution of grain alcohol or vodka (can cut with water) with 5 drops spikenard
and 15 drops frankincense (thereabout).
Dip the carnations in the solution and twirl in a counter-clockwise direction from the center of the room
outward, going into every area of the room including any enclosures. For this, have your clients precede you
by opening drawers, chests, windows as appropriate. Continue until the entire unit is unwound in a counterclockwise direction. Return to the center where you began the process. It is important that the intention is held
by you and your clients during the red carnation clearing that all that is not love or light will be removed from the
premise. Special emphasis should be placed at doors and windows.
Wrap the red carnation in brown packaging paper and cleanse your hands with Sprit Water to remove any
residue from the dark energy that has been gathered in the red carnations.
Once wrapped in two layers of brown paper, then proceed to remove these completely from the premise ideally
to a body of water that is moving rapidly. If stream water is not available, then remove from the property by
crossing some major barrier from that property and bury, otherwise disperse. This is very important and cannot
be overlooked.
Once you have returned, then gather the 13 white carnations and prepare a solution of witch-hazel with 15
drops of essence of Rose.
Then, begin winding the property back up reversing the direction so that you are going in a clockwise
direction, dipping the white carnation in the solution and twirling them in a clockwise direction also. The
clients, this time, are following you and closing all of the orifices that were opened for the red carnations. Then
during the white carnation process, it is also most important that you and the clients hold the intent that love
and light (and any other particularly special intent of the client) be held during the re-winding of the property.
When the trail has been completely retraced and you are back at your starting point, you then place the white
carnations in a vase overnight and the clients examine them in the morning of the next day. If they are severely
wilted, then it is likely that you are in need of doing some additional work to clear the space.
The white carnations are then removed by your clients in the same manner that you
removed the red carnations.
The clients then are responsible to return the
brown wrapping paper to you for you as, the
shaman, to burn in your next fire ceremony.
You have kept the brown paper from the red
carnations also to be burned at the same
time.
Close sacred space with your clients.

I Ching
Before you begin; have a clear intention -or question. Remember that you are working on the mythic level, so
the question is best formed in that way,
Intention/question: _____________________________________________________________________________
Part 1: Throwing the coins
1. Three coins are used. Heads count as three points and tails count as two. Count up the points of each
throw, then write that number down. The numbers go from bottom to top.
2. Once all the numbers are written down, you can make the trigrams. For each even number make a
broken line (Feminine), for each odd number make a solid line (Masculine).
Order of lines

3. Remember to record the throws from the bottom up.
4. Now stop and look at the numbers themselves, are there any repeated or opposite patterns? How do
they feel to you? What do you notice about the lines and their formation? See if you get a sense of the
information that is coming to you.
5. Next go to the table and find out what the trigrams names are. From top to bottom, the first three lines
make the Upper trigram, the second 3 lines make the Lower trigram. What are the words? How are they
positioned in relation to each other? Is that found in nature? Etc... What is the sense of the relationship of
the words?
6. Look back at your questions/intention, what do you notice in relation to the words?
7. Look up the number of the Hexagram using the
table, and get the number for the reading itself.
Record what you feel you are getting. This will be
the information of current time for your situation.

1. Part 2: The Change Lines
1. Look at the numbers you have added from the coins. Mark a star by any 9’s or 6’s. These are the
three of a Kind tosses, whether all heads or all tails, and it means that these are the higher energy lines.
They are known as the Change Lines.
2. You will have more information now by reading the changes.
3. Once you have read your initial trigram, and your changes; you can go back and “change” the starred
lines. If it was solid make it broken, if it was broken make it solid. Now you have a whole new hexagram.
Again, take your time, look at the shape of the hexagram, what does it feel like? Find the words on the
table. What do they feel like? Finally, look up the new hexagram and read it.
4. What has happened with the new hexagram in relationship to the initial one? What are learning as
you go along? Notice feelings, pictures or situations that come to mind, etc... and continue to use your
question to reorient yourself.
5. You now have the information you need to understand how things will be shifting as you go forward
from now.
