Primary Unit:
-We had a very successful "Read for the Record" event last week. We got to read the
book "Not Norman, a Goldfish Story,” do a craft activity and have a special snack. Thank
you to all the families that attended!
- This Friday is our annual Fall Harvest party in the afternoon. There will be a various
activities including crafts and treats! All families are invited to attend. If you would like
to donate a treat for the party, please send it with your child Friday. Please remember to
keep all costumes at home.
- Last week Friday we enjoyed a special program from Mad Science! We learned all
about dinosaurs and even went on a dinosaur dig! All the children also got to take home a
souvenir dinosaur skeleton. Ask your child what they learned about dinosaurs. This was a
great kick off to our next science theme "Geology".
- The primary room goes to the library every other Thursday. Please return the
permission form if you haven't already. Your child will not be able to check out a book
without this form. Also, please return any library books that you may still have at home.
There are many books from last year that are missing.
- Please continue to have your child read at home. Every student is expected to read 15
minutes a night. Reading daily will increase fluency. Check for understanding by asking
questions about the story. RF. 1.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support
comprehension.
Elementary Unit:
-We continue to work on our anti-bullying theme in the Elementary unit. As a
culminating activity, we will all write positive messages to encourage others. Remember,
be a leader and show positive, respectful behavior!
-Our students are reading articles on wolf packs and taking notes in science this
week. Then they will use this information to write a dialogue between two wolf pups that
explains how wolves live in groups and how they survive. The Elementary students
started a new unit in economics which focused on business. This week’s focus is on
economic freedoms and types of businesses. The goal in social studies this week is for
all students to complete their descriptive essay on the Old World Wisconsin field trip.
-All Elementary students are in the process of writing their essays for the Dr. King
writing contest. This year’s theme is “We must act now.” 3.W.3 Write narratives to
develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive
details, and clear event sequences.
-Please continue to encourage your student to read at home daily, as this is an expectation
in the Elementary unit. Reading logs are due the last school day of each week, with a
parent/guardian signature. Please continue to sign your student’s planner daily, as
well. Let’s all continue to encourage our students to be safe, respectful, and responsible
and follow the IDEAL way at all times!!!
Middle School Unit:
In the Science and Social Studies room, the Middle School Unit has been hard at work
presenting their Ancient Egypt Unit Projects, as well as exploring the interior of the Earth
through earthquakes and seismic vibrations. Students are learning to identify patterns
and draw connections between what we physically experience on the Earth's surface, and
what occurs several thousand miles below us. It is an exciting time as we move into our
final unit of the trimester next week, where students will be able to study Ancient India
and China, as well as utilize the research they completed on Ancient Chinese Inventions
to incorporate in their final unit project.
Standards
MS-ESS2-2. Construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience processes
have changed Earth's surface at varying time and spatial scales.
