HEADTEACHER’S NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS AND CARERS
Dear Parents,
Numeracy
OPEN EVENING
It was lovely to see so many Parents
touring the school, with their children
at Open Evening this week. I know that
the children were excited to show their
Parents the work they have completed
during the year and were keen to
participate in the various activities that
were in all the classrooms.
ALLERGIES/FOOD IN SCHOOL
We have a new pupil joining in
September, who has an allergy to nuts
including: Peanuts, peanut butter, nut
oils, nut flavourings, raw egg and peas.
Touching or eating these items will
provoke a severe allergic reaction. For
the safety of the children, we are
asking parents not to send any food
containing nut or nut based items to
school. Thank you for your co-operation
SCOOTERS
Please may I politely
remind parents that
Scooters are not to be
used on the School
premises either before or after school.

KEY 2 MUSIC
In September
Year 3 and
Year 4 will
continue to have School paid for music
lessons with West Sussex Music
Service. We have in the past paid for
lessons for the whole of Key Stage 2
but due to increasing costs and
significant changes in the music
curriculum, which now covers music
appreciation, improvisation and to
develop an understanding of the history
of music (including great composers and
musicians) it has been decided to give
the children a good grounding in reading
music and playing brass and woodwind in
Lower KS2 and use this to help with the
rest of the music curriculum in Upper
KS2.
Private lessons, with West Sussex
Music service will continue to be
available, please speak to the Office for
further details.
Band will continue as normal in
September and is open to anyone in Key
Stage 2

READING CHALLENGE 2016
The children have had an assembly
about the
Summer
Reading
challenge that
is being run in
West Sussex
libraries. I would like as many children
to participate in this during the
holidays. Please bring in certificates
for the reading challenge into the first
celebration assembly.
“It is the children’s chance to join in
with libraries everywhere as they
celebrate 100 years of one of the
world’s favourite storytellers – Roald

Dahl. The aim is to keep children
reading over the summer holidays; the
challenge is for each child to read six
books between Saturday 16th July and
Saturday 17th September. For each
book they read they will be able to
collect special Big Friendly Read cards
all beautifully illustrated by Quentin
Blake. The Summer Reading Challenge is
free of charge - you simply need to visit
your local library.”
We will promoting this in school – please
do support us at home.

TEACHER AND PARENT
INFROMATION SESSIONS
We will be holding ‘Meet The Teacher’
sessions again in the
Autumn term.
Sessions will be in the
classrooms from 2.30
until 3.00pm. The
class teacher will talk
about the curriculum, expectations for
the year, how to help your child with
Literacy and Numeracy, planned trips.
For Years 2 and 6 it will also include
information about National tests. It
will also give you an opportunity to meet
the team who work with your child and
to ask questions
The sessions will be held as follows:
Tuesday 13th Sept – Hedgehog class
Wednesday 14th Sept – Owl class
Thursday 15th Sept – Buzzard class
Friday 16th Sept – Fox class
I appreciate that some Parents will not
be able to attend the session so a handout covering all the points discussed will
be sent home.
‘THE FRIENDS’
I would like to thank the Friends for all
of their hard work, often behind the
scenes, again this year. The Friends
raise a substantial amount of money to
enhance the work we undertake at
school including subsidising trips, paying
for special events and visitors. They
HEADTEACHER’S NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS AND CARERS
also provide the ‘man power’ at school
events. Thank you for your continued
support.
AND FINALLY…YEAR 6
We say goodbye to our
Year 6 children, who will
move on to their new
stage of learning at Secondary School.
We have watched you grow in
confidence during your time with us and
have been very proud of your
achievements. All the staff, Governors
and I wish you all good luck for the next
stage of your learning. I would also like
to say thank you to their parents for
the support that they have given our
school over the last seven years.
The collection after the Leavers’
Service this morning raised £289.47
which will be going to The Rowans
Hospice in memory of Mrs Etherington.
May I take this opportunity to
emphasise that if you have any concerns
about your child’s progress, or any
aspect of their school life, please
contact firstly the class teacher, then
Mr Christmas/myself or pop into see
Mrs Crews who will be more than happy
to make an appointment.
Thank you for your continued support.
With best wishes
Mrs Claire Inskip
