FLVS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
As the leader in digital education, FLVS creates innovative ways to help administrators and teachers reach
their potential through education and development. The best teachers know how to motivate and engage
students, and the best administrators know how to support and evaluate teachers. FLVS instructional tools and
professional development offerings are designed with both groups in mind. To assist students, teachers, and
administrators, FLVS Professional Development courses are specifically designed for literacy, Response to
Intervention (RTI), student motivation, and school leadership, in addition to blended and fully online teaching
and learning.
FLVS is committed to developing flexible professional development options to meet various needs. All courses,
except for our Digital Teaching Series, are available as online webinars or face-to-face workshop presentations
and can be customized. FLVS Professional Development is available year-round and can be scheduled on
demand.

WORLD
Academic Integrity in a Virtual World is an interactive
training that will equip educators to effectively ensure the
academic integrity of their digital program. At the end of
the program, educators will feel confident in using digital
tools and best teaching strategies to protect the integrity
of their digital courses. Participants will benefit from the
high-quality instruction and proven strategies that have
made FLVS a successful digital program with strong
academic integrity for over 15 years.
Advanced Placement is an interactive training that
provides participants with digital teaching strategies and
resources that focus on higher-order thinking skills. At
the end of the session, educators will be empowered
to use the tools provided to focus learning on analysis,
synthesis, and evaluation. The Advanced Placement
training offers educators the opportunity to receive highquality instruction from an expert in digital Advanced
Placement programs with proven results.

BRAINHONEY™ UNIVERSITY
Mastering a Learning Management System (LMS) can
be a daunting task. With the help of FLVS Learning
Specialists, you can begin to navigate with confidence,
modify instructional content, adjust gradebook settings,
and personalize your BrainHoney system to meet the
needs of your digital or blended program. Whether you’re
an administrator or an instructor using FLVS courses in
BrainHoney, you will benefit from the suite of hands-on,

This hands-on, full day workshop will equip participants
with the tools and knowledge needed to implement
blended learning into classrooms and schools. By the
end of the workshop, participants will be empowered
to create student-centered learning spaces within
their school, develop a blended learning, teacher
training plan, and develop blended, weekly lesson
plans for students. The Blended in Action Workshop
offers educators and leaders the opportunity to explore
successes and stories of blended learning environments
from FLVS clients and experts in blended learning. The
Workshop creates the space for personalizing learning

Learning Management System (LMS). Learn how and

readiness. The Common Core in a Virtual World Suite is a series of interactive trainings that will equip educators with an
understanding of their role in addressing the instructional shifts required by Common Core. Choose one, two or all of

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS AND

As we move toward implementation of Common Core
State Standards in many places across the U.S, the
onus is on teachers in all subject areas to ensure that
students are prepared for college and careers. Common
Core—Transform Your Thinking is an interactive training
that provides participants a basic understanding of
the history and purpose of the Common Core State
Standards, as well as strategies to help address the
instructional shifts that need to take place.
The Common Core—English Language Arts and
Literacy training provides participants with an
introduction to the key shifts required by the Common
Core State Standards for ELA/Literacy. Part of this
training will examine ways in which adoption of CCSS
has impacted ELA courses at FLVS. Other topics
covered will include text complexity and understanding
how text-dependent questions support the ELA/Literacy
shifts at FLVS.

CREATE DYNAMIC THINKERS IN ALL
SUBJECT AREAS
Encouraging growth of critical thinking skills and
enabling students to connect the mathematical dots
between concepts is a primary focus of CCSS aligned
courses at FLVS. The Common Core–Mathematics
training provides participants with an introduction to the
key shifts required by the CCSS for Math. Part of this
training will examine ways in which adoption of CCSS
has impacted mathematics courses at FLVS and ways
that educators can help learners achieve higher levels of
math competencies.

TEACHING LITERACY STRATEGIES IN
AN ONLINE OR BLENDED LEARNING
MODEL
This five-module online course is the perfect
complement to Teaching in an Online Learning Model
or Teaching in a Blended Learning Model. Picking up
where these courses leave off, Advanced Strategies
for Online or Blended Instruction goes on to explore
appropriate topics for a slightly more advanced online
teacher. This course encourages continued growth in
best practices and technology for virtual educators.
Once armed with the basics, virtual educators can move
on to this more advanced course. This six-module course
provides a comprehensive solution to assist struggling
readers in the online classroom. Designed by a team of
FLVS reading experts and approved by the Florida DOE
to be used as Competency Six for the Florida Reading
Endorsement, Teaching Literacy Strategies in an Online
or Blended Learning Model (also known as Systematic
Overview of Literacy for Virtual Educators, or S.O.L.V.E.)
provides knowledge and experiences to use with all
online students, from advanced to struggling readers.
OBJECTIVES:
• Encourage academic integrity in the online
environment by educating and utilizing stakeholders,
knowing your students, and employing monitoring
tools
• Explore motivational theories and strategies for
students, and evaluate motivational techniques
• Discover how to create an Online Community
with book clubs and book talks, student clubs and
activities, blogs, discussion groups, social networks,
and more
• Gain experience with Web 2.0 Tools that add audio
and video to class activities and student submissions,
and receive tips on tried and true tech tools and free
resources for instructors
OBJECTIVES:
• Explore reading research with an overview of national
reading initiatives and the five components of literacy
instruction
• Examine specifics on getting to know student readers
• Investigate strategies for helping students activate
prior knowledge, preview text, and make predictions
• Review strategies for comprehending text, learning
vocabulary, and improving fluency
• Discover best practices in responding to text,
discussing concepts, and creating online course
environments that are inviting and engaging for
student readers
• Synthesize and showcase strategies through a final
project and portfolio
• Take away links to literacy-related resources, including
literacy strategies and templates, a complete listing
of web links used within the course, online and offline
literacy resources, and a comprehensive works cited

ENVIRONMENT
With ten modules of content, Teaching Strategies in
a Digital Environment course provides 60 hours of
comprehensive training to equip an online instructor to
be successful. The course begins with an introduction
to online teaching using best practices from the FLVS
teaching models. The last part of the course delves
deeper into more advanced topics, which encourage
continued growth in best practices and technology for
virtual educators.
OBJECTIVES:
• Discover the history of online education, online
teaching standards and organizations, and the future
of online learning
• Review pros and cons of online learning and the
challenges and benefits of working from home and
organizing a workspace
• Learn secrets to establishing a work/life balance,
managing tasks, and planning and prioritizing
• Explore best practices for welcoming students into the
course and for personalizing an online classroom
• Take away great tips for communicating via phone,
writing emails, and using proper netiquette
• Learn how to create timely, personal, and specific
feedback that will motivate students

VIRTUAL LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Time Management is an interactive training that will
equip educators to effectively utilize digital tools and
time management strategies to create a healthy worklife balance. By the end of the session, participants will
be empowered to use multiple resources that will save
time and will help make the multiple demands on a
digital employee manageable. The Time Management
training offers educators the opportunity to receive highquality instruction from an expert in digital learning with
opportunities for question and answer.
With over fifteen years of experience as a leader in
the digital and blended world, FLVS offers expert

organization and industry leader. The Virtual Leadership

WEB 2.0 IN THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM
Web 2.0 in the Virtual Classroom is an interactive
training that will equip educators to effectively utilize
digital tools to monitor and to assist students to
maximize the learning experience. By the end of
the session, participants will be empowered to use
multiple resources to support all learners, to improve
communication between teachers and students, and to
recommend tools for facilitating effective collaboration
and for creating engaging assessments. This training
offers educators the opportunity to receive high-quality
instruction from an expert in digital learning with
opportunities for question and answer.

assist learners in digital courses
• Discover synchronous and asynchronous
communication tools for versatile web-based
instruction and assessment
