More USA Grapes are arriving by sea freight.
Strawberries are expected to firm in price this week due to demand from the East.
VEGETABLES

Lettuce and Broccoli prices are low at present.
Stringless Beans have eased in price.
Cucumbers are very short in supply and prices have firmed.
Local Snow Peas are in good supply.

FORECAST
Warmer weather forecast should hopefully stimulate demand.
PICK OF THE WEEK
Angelina Seedless Eggplant
Coming from Carnarvon, this variety of Eggplant is known for its distinctive purple skin
colouring which is covered in thin white stripes.
The Angelina variety is popular in many Middle Eastern dishes as it’s flesh is snowy
white when cut, and contains no seeds, making this variety free of the common
Eggplant bitterness.
Being the seedless variety, the Angelina is perfect when used for dips and stir fries.
PRODUCTS TO WATCH
FRUIT
POME FRUIT
Quality Royal Gala and Pink Lady Apples are selling at high prices but lesser quality fruit
is still available at slightly reduced levels. Nashi Pears are selling steadily. Fuyu fruit
from NZ is well supplied and well received.
CITRUS
Large volumes of Navel Oranges are available. There is still plenty of lesser quality and
size fruit available at lower prices. Lemons are steady. Carnarvon Pink Grapefruit is still
selling steadily with plenty of stock available. Mandarins are steady with Hickson and
Afourer being the best sellers. Once the Imperial variety finishes, Mandarin sales
generally decline.
BERRIES
Strawberries are plentiful but unfortunately sales to the East Coast could cause an
increase in price later this week. Blueberries are still available at steady prices.
Raspberries are steady but are in light in supply.
MELONS
Rockmelons have held their price as supply has eased and large fruit is less plentiful.
Honeydews are steady. Seedless Watermelon is in shorter supply but has held its price.
Regular Watermelon has at last reached the market.
GRAPES
Stock that has arrived by sea is of quite good quality but shelf life is not as good as air
freighted produce. Most varieties are being marketed in bags to overcome the shatter
problem of seedless Grapes. This process could be something local growers can adopt
when our local season starts.
STONEFRUIT
Some early Peaches and Nectarines are available from Carnarvon but the size and
presentation is poor against good size and well presented USA fruit.
TROPICAL LINES & OTHER FRUITS
USA Pomegranates are steady. Bananas are more plentiful and prices have eased but
greying is apparent due to the unseasonal cold in QLD. Pineapples are steady and well
supplied. Kiwifruit is steady. Local Passionfruit is more plentiful at steady prices.
PRODUCTS TO WATCH
VEGETABLES
FRUITING VEGETABLES & CUCURBITS
Demand from the Eastern States has eased the situation with oversupply of Tomatoes
but prices have risen sharply this week as growers can sell higher to supplement the
demand from over East. Prices are expected to increase further during this week. Not
all Tomatoes were acceptable for sending over East and remains in the local market
with the ongoing quality problems. Capsicums are well supplied and all colours are
selling well. Chillies are in heavy supply and prices remain steady. Eggplant is still in
short supply and selling at firm prices for good sizes. The Angelina variety of eggplant is
more widely available from Carnarvon and selling well. Burpless (Continental)
Cucumbers are in very short supply and will be for the next 4 – 5 weeks. Prices are up
considerably and Geraldton produce is going East to supply SA where prices are strong.
Lebanese Cucumbers have also firmed and will also be in short supply for the next
month. The lack of sunshine is impeding growth creating a small shortage. Green
Cucumbers from the Gascoyne are also up in price as a result. Zucchinis are in heavy
supply and steady in price.
HERBS, LEAF & BRASSICA VEGETABLES
Iceberg Lettuce prices have dropped further. Cos Lettuce has remained steady.
Silverbeet was more available and prices have eased. English Spinach is excellent in
quality at steady prices. Iced Broccoli supplies are still improving and prices have eased
further. Most Cabbages have eased a bit further but Red and Savoy varieties remain
firm as supply has dropped. Kale and Tuscan Cabbage are steady. Cauliflower supplies
have shortened and caused an upturn in price this week.
ROOT & BULB VEGETABLES
All root vegetables are well supplied and the quality is very good. Onion prices are
steady and Spring Onions have eased this week. Kohl Rabi is well supplied in both
white and purple colours. Fennel bulbs from VIC are still selling steadily and excellent
in quality. Both large and baby sizes are available. Celeriac is well supplied at steady
prices. Sweet Potatoes are short and selling at firm prices and may go higher next
week.
LEGUMES, STALK & STEM VEGETABLES
Sugar Snap and Snow Peas from local suppliers are still plentiful and prices
competitive. Stringless Beans are selling well and in good supply easing prices further.
Kentucky Blue beans are variable in quality. Broad Beans and Runner beans are at
steady prices but variable in quality. Local Asparagus from Albany and Carnarvon is
more plentiful and prices have eased.
