News from the Youth City Council
The Youth Council will be selling concessions and glow sticks before the fireworks on July 19th. Stop by
and check out the candy and drinks. We are excited to run a dunk tank on Saturday. Come by and see if
you can soak someone or maybe go for a splash yourself!
Volleyball Tournament
The Youth Council will be running a volleyball tournament. Organize a team or just show up and pull
some people together. Or join a group that could use your talents. Either way we'll serve up some fun!

What is Happening in the City?
Honorary Grand Marshall Hyde Park City Parade— Paul Lamont
Paul Lamont was born in Logan, UT on February 23, 1941. He graduated from
Logan High School in 1959 and joined the Navy in 1960. He was honorably discharged in 1966. He is a Vietnam Vet and participated in the nuclear testing in the
Pacific, known as Operation Dominic. He attended Weber State College and studied
Psychology and Police Science. He joined the Police academy and began as a reserve officer in 1972 for Logan City. In 1975 he went to work for the Sheriff’s Office.
A few years later, the North Logan Mayor & City Council asked Paul to be North Logan’s first full time Police Officer. He was known as the town marshal or Ex Officio
Chief of Police. The Mayor of Hyde Park City asked if it was possible to have him operate as a police officer for both Hyde Park and North Logan and the North Park Police Department was formed. Paul retired from the North Park Police Department in
1993 after 15 years of service. He went to work at Gordon’s RV for 3 years and then
worked for the USU Police Department when his beautiful wife Barbara (Rusty) was
diagnosed with terminal cancer. Barbara died in 1998 and was buried in the Hyde
Park cemetery. In 2009 Paul retired from USU and decided that he was still too young to be retired so he took a
fulltime job at Nucor Steel. He has worked many jobs throughout his career but he considers his main occupation Cowboy.
Paul loves to fish, hunt, ride horses, dance and watch high school athletics, especially football and wrestling. He has 5
children, 27 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Paul was actively involved in starting the CPR program in
Cache Valley. He helped initiate the training programs. He helped raise money for the ambulance service, and he
raised money for the lights on the Sky View football field. All of his neighbors, friends, & coworkers know him for his
countless hours of service. He finds great satisfaction in serving his family, neighbors, and community. Paul is very
proud of his wonderful children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will proudly share stories about their
achievements. He can be seen all over town taking his grandchildren and neighbor kids on rides with his horses and
wagon.
