Weekly Highlights Theme: “Dolphins, Sharks and Whales” Monday Math: “Counting Shark Teeth” Sharks continuously shed their teeth. Some sharks can lose up to 35,000 teeth in a lifetime. Today we will use our math skills to count rows of shark teeth. Physical Activities and Songs: “Baby Shark Song” Baby shark, do do do do do do Baby shark, do do do do do do Baby shark, do do do do do do Baby shark As we sing this song the students will act out the different sizes of sharks. Physical Activities: “Fish, Fish, Shark” In the activity center we will play Duck, Duck, Goose with a twist. Students will take turns being the “fish” that runs away from the sharks. Tuesday Learning from the World/Sensory: “Dolphin Speak” Dolphins use whistle, clicks and pulse calls to communicate with each other. We will listen to a recording of group of dolphins communicating with each other. Group Time/Language: “Echolocation” Today during Circle Time we will discuss how dolphins use echolocation to locate and identify objects hundreds of yards away. Art and Fine Motor: “Father’s Day Card” Today the students will decorate their card for their Father’s Day gift. Each student will also practice their handwriting skills by tracing or writing their own name on the card. Room 109 Wednesday Art/Fine Motor: “A Whale’s Tail” Flukes are the two lobes of the whale’s tail and they are used for swimming. Today using black construction paper each student will assemble their own tail. Physical Activities: “Hopscotch” While on the playground today the students will help draw rectangles to make a hopscotch board. We will work on gross motor skills as we hop thru the numbered spaces. Song: “Orca Whale” Tune – I’m a Little Teapot I'm a mighty orca Black and white. In the sea I'm a beautiful sight. I'm not very big, But I am sleek. I hunt for my food Cause I have teeth. Week Of: June 12-16, 2017 Thursday Friday Science: “Comparing Whales and Sharks” The class will make a vin diagram and compare the similarities and differences in whales and sharks. Learning from the World: “Tying Ties” Some daddies wear ties when they go to work. Today we will use our fine motor skills to practice making knots in a tie. We will then wear our ties around the classroom as we work like daddy! Fine Motor: “Cutting with Scissors” The students will practice their cutting skills. Each student will work on cutting in a straight line by following the stripe patterns on the paper. Small Group: “My Daddy” We will discuss what dads do for us. What makes them happy and what are their favorite activities? Then each child will be answering a questionnaire about his/her own daddy and what he likes best. Talk to your child about these fun activities and events! Group Time and Language: “Grandpas” We all have grandpas, but who is he? Today at circle time we will discuss that mommy and daddy have a dad, too. Literature: My Brother Bert by Ted Hughes Bert sister knows that Bert likes to hide animals and she wants to find them all. Once she discovers Bert’s collection of animals she lets them out to roam. Can she get all the animals back in their spots before Bert gets home?
