A MESSAGE FROM
THE CEO AND CVO
2011 YEAR IN REVIEW
YMCA OF SOUTH PALM BEACH COUNTY
We are pleased to present this report on YMCA results for 2011 and to thank the many
volunteers, staff, members and donors who have contributed and participated in what was
a highly successful year for the YMCA of South Palm Beach County. Our YMCA is a cause
driven organization with a focus on strengthening the foundations of the communities we
serve. Our goal is to have an impact in three specific program areas and here are some
examples from each:
Youth Development: Youth sports, preschool, after school, and summer camps are all
geared toward providing young people with learning, physical activity, and fun under the
supervision of caring adult role models. Impact – growth in confidence and self-esteem.
Healthy Living: The YMCA offers a wide range of programs and facilities for healthy living
including group exercise, Parkinson’s classes, physical therapy, wellness seminars, and
activities for infants through seniors. Impact – sense of wellbeing and a healthier community.
Social Responsibility: In 2011 the Y raised funds through the Annual Campaign and
special events and distributed $500,000 in direct financial assistance to children, families,
and individuals who otherwise would have been unable to participate. An additional
$239,000 provided program subsidies funded by foundation and United way grants.
Impact – high level of diversity and inclusion.
In the fall of 2011 the volunteer boards and staff leadership conducted a strategic
planning process to set the course for the next generation of YMCA participants. Key
components of the plan include strengthening the volunteer structure of the organization
and enhancing financial development. Programmatically we will align our efforts with the
YMCA of the USA to prevent diabetes and youth obesity, provide youth activities geared
toward closing the summer learning gap, and mobilize resources to prevent accidental
death by drowning.
On behalf of the thousands of children, families, and adults served by the YMCA of South Palm
Beach County we thank you for your continuing generosity as we focus on the measureable
impact of Y programs and their role in strengthening the foundations of our community.

the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve better health and well-being.

ocial Responsibility - Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Across the country,
the Y helps people give back and assist their neighbors by offering them opportunities to volunteer,
advocate and support programs that strengthen community.
THE Y’S IMPACT
More than 2,600 locations in 10,000 communities across the country. 21 million people (12 million adults
and 9 million youth) of all ages, incomes, backgrounds and abilities come to the Y to learn, grow and thrive.
500,000 volunteers – kids, parents, individuals, and business and community leaders –are personally
vested in strengthening their communities. 20,000 full time staff 64 million households and 32 million
children ages 14 and under live within three miles of a YMCA, while 1,518 YMCAs serve communities where
the median family income is below the U.S. average.
INVOLVEMENT AT THE Y
The Y hopes to engage more people in the communities it serves whether it is as a member,
volunteer, supporter or advocate. All play a vital role in strengthening our communities. To learn more
