Reader Photo Spotlight
Reader Photo Spotlight is back! After having
reveived NO responses from readers for several
months, we replaced it with the "What is Juli up to?'
section in December. Then, all of a sudden, we received
3 entries in the last 2 weeks.
We'd like to thank Yvonne Alvarez, Randy Johnson,
Ralph Marshalle for those great pictures. Every one of
you could be a winner if we had different categories, but
we had to choose one. So this month's winner is:
"Randy Johnson" of Seattle.
People who live in the Seattle area know that this
picture was taken at
famous Pike Place Market.
It's very hard to tell how
beautiful the colors of

have posted the picture on

for you to see. You can

Congratulations, Randy!
We will send you a box of

Lousiana is shrinking, is your
muscle?
The state of Lousinana is losing about 13 square
miles of wetland a year, equivalent of a football field
every hour. No, it is not becoming dry land. It is
becoming a part of the sea.
The land has been sinking below the sea level due to
the lack of replenishing sediments from the flooding.
The extensive levees built along the Mississippi River
are to blame. In an effort to avoid the pain of the
seemingly unpleasant experience (flooding), they are
actually loosing the land to the sea instead.
The flooding is almost like a healthy workout for the
land. It adds sediment. It builds the land. And, it
supplies the land with healthy nutrients. You see, your
muscles work the same way. You need to work out
regulary to keep your muscles strong and healthy.
You don't necessarily have to go to the gym and lift
heavy weights. You just to get off your comfortable sofa
every 10 minutes, and exercise while watching your

Phrase of the month
Mechanical Turk
Have you ever heard of the service offered by
Amazon.com that allows you to hire workers for
small projects without ever having to directly
interface with your worker?
Here is the background of why it's called the
"Mechanical Turk". The Mechanical Turk was a
fake chesspalying machine constructed by
Wolfgang von Kempelen in 1770. The machine
toured around world and was
able to beat some of the best
chess players of the time.
Years later, it turned out that
the Turk was in fact a
mechanical illusion that
allowed a human Chess
Master to hide inside and
operate the machine.
Interesting Fact:
Robert Wadlow born in Alton Illinois, in 1918 was
already 6 feet tall by the time he was even eight years
old. He was the tallest man ever recorded in the history
of mankind.
He suffered from the disorder "Gigantism" that
makes the lower portion of the body extremely large,
while the head and torso remain relatively normal size.
But as you can see in the picture, his head is still almost
twice as big as the man standing next to him. Gigantism
is caused by a pituitary
gland tumor that
excretes large amounts
of growth hormone.
It is said that world
renowned motivational
speaker, Tony Robbins,
also suffered from mild
case of gigantism after
adolescence. Tony's
height is only around 6
feet 7 inches while
Robert Wadlow reached
8 feet and 11 inches at
the age of 21 years, and
finally died of an
inflamed leg.

Juli's
Healthy
Living
Corner
Recently, a patient asked
me if I could give them
longevity. I said, "Give me
passion."
We live, we die, that is life.
It's not how long we live but how we live it with no
regrets. It's important to treat our body with care, love
and most importantly, respect.
Passion the key. With passion in your life, you have a
drive to enjoy each day. Your passion doesn't have to big
- it's personal. It can be as little as eating a cookie (my
favorite Oatmeal Raisin, no cinnamon). With passion in
your life, stress has no room. We all need to day dream
and laugh. Give your passions room to fill your life with
joy, small and big. With passion, your body become
strong and is able to help you enjoy the life you have.
Life is about having a balance, and sometimes not.
Why? My passion is so much stronger than stress, it will
take a lot to get that stress level up when passion is
there. I love you all and encourage you to live life with
Passion.
With love, Juli

favorite TV show. Walk around the room, stretch, do
some push ups or sit ups. Do whatever you can do to
stimulate your muscles. Not only does it prevent your
muscle from shrinking, it dramatically improves the
circulation of your blood and oxgen throughout the
body. You may loose a pound or two as a bonus. By the
way, you should visit New Orleans before it disappears
from the map, it is truly a wonderful place!
