2nd Grade Math Enrichment- Hudacsko
Today we worked on the activity â 2,4,6,8â (see link). This activity allowed students to
create their own number sentences, use vocabulary related to addition and subtraction including
â sumâ and â differenceâ , and recognize relationships between numbers/ number
sentences (i.e.; 2+4=6 is the same as 4+2=6, as well as 2+8-6=4 is similar to 2+8-4=6).
Students used number cards as well as the Promethean board to answer various questions about
these number sentences.
2nd Grade Math Enrichment- Rogers
Today we completed the activity â Even and Oddâ (see link). Students used pictures and
number cards to determine if the sum of two even/odd numbers or one even and one odd
number would be even or odd.
We then played the game â Dotty Sixâ (see link). We finished with the game â Greater
or Less Thanâ .
2nd Grade Math Pull Out
Today we began our problem solving strategy of â Make A Tableâ (attached). We used a
table, matrix, and created our own tables to solve math problems. We finished with soma
cubes.

Today we worked on the activity â 2,4,6,8â (see link). This activity allowed students to
create their own number sentences, use vocabulary related to addition and subtraction including
â sumâ and â differenceâ , and recognize relationships between numbers/ number
sentences (i.e.; 8+2=10 and 6+4=10, as well as 2+8-6=4 is similar to 2+8-4=6). Students
recorded the number sentences they created using all of the cards before taking turns writing
them on the Promethean board.
We then played the game â Endless Noughts and Crossesâ (see link).
2nd Grade Math Pull Out
Today was a short day due to an assembly. We continued working on our problem solving
strategy â Make A Tableâ (attached).

2nd Grade Math Enrichment Pull Out
Today we finished our problem solving strategy â Make A Tableâ . We finished class with
the choice of â Aces Upâ or the Soma Cube puzzle.
2nd Grade Math Enrichment- Hudacsko/ Rogers
Today we worked on the problem â Strike It Outâ (see link). We first played a round on
the Promethean so students learned the rules to the challenge. They then worked in partners to
try to write as many number sentences as they could using the numbers 0-20 only once.
Students tried to write as many number sentences as they could to cross out all the numbers on
the number line. As a class we discussed studentâ s strategies, why we couldnâ t cross out
the number 0, and possibilities for other number lines such as 0-10, 1-21, and 0-30. This game
gave students the opportunity to practice creating and writing addition and subtraction number
sentences. It also allowed them to guess and improve their strategies and work systematically.
