Accelerated Reader Celebration
The Chair of the Board of the Encore Thrift Store also made a
presentation - one that had an immediate and profound impact on
our plans for 2016 - 2017. As the Finance team worked on the budget
this past month, it became clear that we would not have sufficient
revenue for some important initiatives. The swimming program, an
Educational Assistant for our Grade 5 class, bookkeeping support,
some IT initiatives – all were removed from the plans for the 2016 2017 school year, with the hopes that increased enrolment over the
summer months would allow us to add some of this back in.
And then came the Encore announcement! Greg Riedstra presented
JKCS Board Chair Jackie Sybersma, with a cheque for $60,000!! In
their first year of operation, Encore has given JKCS a total of $100,000.
The Encore Thrift Store is an incredible gift to John Knox Christian
School. The vision, passion and dedicated service of the board and
amazing team of volunteers is humbling and inspiring, and is
impacting the lives of JKCS staff, students and families every day.
John Knox families, we need to show our support by volunteering
for this amazing organization!! JKCS and Encore are legally required
to operate at “arm’s length”, to ensure our charitable status is not
jeopardized. For that reason JKCS cannot give volunteer hours for
time spent at Encore. But the benefit of the store clearly goes beyond
volunteer hours! Stay tuned for more details on how you can join
the team. We have 110 families, and when we all give a little bit of
our time, Encore will continue to thrive and flourish and make so
much possible for JKCS!
There are a few JKCS parents who are already deeply involved at
Encore, and they absolutely love the time they spend there! God is
working mightily through the faithful past parents, grandparents,
and devoted supporters of Christian education. Encore is known as a
warm, inviting, positive place in the Brampton community, and we
are so grateful for the incredible gift of their existence.

This week we will begin to wrap things up as the end of school
year draws to a close. On that note, let me take this time to
thank all the families of the grade ones for your support and
prayers. The time I had with your children was invaluable and
has helped me to become a better teacher. So once again, thank
you!
Field Trip to Ontario Science Centre: I have received the $12.00
and signed permission slip from many of the students but there
are a few who still need to bring those items in. If your child plans

learn how God has shown His creativity by uniquely designing
each type of owl.

your child may still bring in their Bookometer and I will add the
number of newly read books to our total.
