University School of Dance College of Kinesiology VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND DO NOT LOSE THESE SHEETS!!! Dear Parents and Performers: The following is very important regarding the Dress Rehearsal and the Dance Recital performances. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Below is a list of which classes will be dancing in the afternoon and evening performances. Our school is too large to present the entire dance program in just one show, unless we were to move to a more expensive and larger venue. In order to keep the recital and ticket costs down, we offer a matinee and an evening show on the same day. We try to accommodate children and families in different classes into the same performance, but often it is difficult and we do not want to put too much pressure on those junior students, who are in multiple classes to perform all their numbers in the same performance. For this reason, many of the senior students will perform in both shows, so that we can provide a balanced program of our class offerings, and progressions made. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but as an added incentive to keep ticket costs down for parents, there is much opportunity to volunteer that day or at the rehearsal, in some capacity, and see their child’s performance for free. 2 PM Matinee: Creative Dance 4/5 (THURS) Beginner Jazz A Beginner Tap A Pre-Primary Ballet Pre-Beginner Jazz Spirit Flyers Child BEG Grade 2 Ballet Level 2 Tap Pre-Elementary Jazz Beginner Hip Hop Grade ¾ Ballet Junior Lyrical Kids in Motion Spirit Flyers Intermediate Intermediate Jazz Adult Tap INT Open Ballet ABC Pointe A & B Advanced Jazz Senior Lyrical Level 4 Tap Experienced Highland Grade 6 Ballet Contemporary 7 PM Evening: Creative Dance 4/5 (SAT) Beginner Jazz B Beginner Tap B Primary Ballet Beginner Highland Spirit Flyers Child EXP Beginner Ballet 9-11 Grade 1 Ballet Level 1 Tap Elementary Jazz Grade 5 Ballet Level 3 Tap Musical theatre 9-11 Spirit Flyers Advanced Intermediate Lyrical Adult Tap EXP Adult Hip Hop & Contemporary Open Ballet ABC Pointe A & B Advanced Jazz Senior Lyrical Level 4 Tap Experienced Highland Grade 6 Ballet Contemporary The Dress Rehearsal: 1. The dress rehearsal for the Dance Program is on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at St. Joseph High School Theatre, 115 Nelson Road (by the Alice Turner Library and the Soccer Centre). Please refrain from parking in the Alice Turner Library lot as you may receive a ticket. Please follow the signs posted. The children must be dressed and prepared to dance 15 minutes prior to their scheduled time frame. It would be helpful if one or two parents could supervise their child’s class during the rehearsal times. As soon as your children have finished rehearsing their dance they may go home. Since the children are not allowed to watch the actual performance, unless there is room, it is recommended that they stay and watch some of the dances during dress rehearsal if possible. 2. All children must attend the dress rehearsal. There will be no exceptions. It is impossible for the children to do well if their entire class is not present, as teachers need to help children find their places on the stage. The children must come dressed in their costume with hair and makeup neatly done as per the dance instructor’s specifications. If they are in more than one number, please dress in the appropriate costume according to the schedule. If dancers fail to attend the dress rehearsal, they may be asked to withdraw from the dance recital. 3. There will be no video recording allowed on the performance nights so if you wish to record your child’s class please do so at the rehearsal. Recording video in your seat during the performance is very disruptive to both performers and other audience members. Please be respectful of this. Artistic Imagery does the recording of the recital and produces DVD and video tapes of each night that can be purchased. See attached order form. 4. If you wish to volunteer your time for some of the jobs that need to be done at/for the recital, please check your name and the activity for which you wish to volunteer on the attached sheet. You can return this to your child’s instructor and we will contact you closer to the recital. It will be appreciated very much if you can find the time to help. As an added incentive to volunteer for the recital, one free ticket (for either show) will be given to those parents that volunteer to help out at the recital. The free ticket will be given out at the dress rehearsal before any extra tickets will be sold. Volunteers are scheduled on a first come-first serve basis. The Recital: St. Joseph High School Theatre When: Sunday, May 28th, 2017 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. $15.00 per ticket 1. The children are to arrive at the theatre no later than 1:00pm for the afternoon matinee performance which will begin promptly at 2:00 pm and no later than 6:00 pm for the evening show which will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Upon arrival please follow the posted signs to the dressing rooms. The children are to be in costumes with their hair and make-up neatly done. 2. Children are not allowed in theatre or in the foyer at anytime during the recital, including the intermission. If parents need to speak to their children they may go to the dressing rooms and see them. If parents wish to take their children home after they have performed, please wait until intermission to collect and inform their teacher that you will be taking them home. 3. Ticket purchases will be available as listed below. There is an initial limit of four tickets per family per show. After everyone has purchased their initial tickets the remaining tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis during the dress rehearsals beginning on Saturday, May 27th at St. Joseph High School Theatre. Tickets are $15.00 for all ages. All children must have a ticket if they are going to occupy a seat (children are not allowed to sit on parent’s laps). Please do not purchase tickets for those involved in the dance performance(s) as there will be no dancers allowed in the theatre (no exceptions). All seats are rush seating, so if you have a large group and you want to sit together we would suggest that you arrive early. We have purposely made the tickets inexpensive, but we do have a lot of costs: theatre, technicians, piano, and pianists. All of these things are very expensive and we must break even on our program. 4. Tickets will be on sale in the General Office (Room 222, Physical Activity Complex) during the following times: • Monday, May 1st, 2017 from 8:30 am-4:30 pm (business hours) through Friday, May 26th, 2017. Tickets can be purchased in person in our office using cash, cheque, debit or credit card (Visa and MasterCard) or over the telephone during business hours at 966-1001 using Visa ,MasterCard, or AMEX. * The remainder of tickets will be sold at the Dress Rehearsal (Saturday, May 27th) on a firstcome/first-serve basis using cash or cheque only. Please make cheques payable to UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN. If you have any questions please call me at 966-1005.
