Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Welcome! My name is Mayline Garrido (Ms. Garrido) and I will be your child’s science teacher. I am looking forward to a
great and positive school year filled with academic success and maturity. Looking into the upcoming days, I am expecting that you,
your child and I can have an open window of communication in order to ensure a successful year for all of us. First things first, it is
important that your child understand the importance of attending school every day and on time. It is also important to understand that
in order to have a successful school year, each child must come to class prepared with materials and with an attitude to learn. At MS.
180 we believe that every child has the opportunity to reach excellence.
Homework:
Students will be receiving homework. Each homework assignment will have its own due date. It is important that when homework
assignments are given, it is completed. Homework makes up 15% of your child’s grade.
Materials:
Attached you will find a list of materials. I am requesting that you and your child sign it as an indication of your awareness. Coming
unprepared to class will affect your child’s participation grade which is worth 15% of your child’s overall grade.
Communication:
Attached you will also find a page with my contact information. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me.
Your help and support is essential in making this a successful year!
Thank you in advance for your continued support and cooperation!
Sincerely,
Ms. Garrido

My Teaching Philosophy:
My philosophy as a teacher is allowing students to find themselves in the classroom. If a student is able
to find their own learning style, they would prefer to learn the material given. Although the
information given will revolve around science, there are also certain strategies and skills that students
will be able to develop through the learning experience. I believe that allowing students to find
themselves in the classroom will allow the student to MATURE, find INTEREST and SUCCEED.
Challenging students beyond their comfort zone, will help students and parents realize the potential
that the student holds in order to succeed. Having students learn in this kind of environment also
allows the students to grow and respect the importance of science and of learning in general.
